Julian looked utterly bewildered. “Who are you?”
My face instantly hardened as I stormed into the room.
“Who let you in here?”
Mary saw me and frowned. “Weren’t you abroad taking care of Steven? Did he come back…?”
Her expression shifted from annoyance to pure rage when she saw Horace standing behind me.
“Well, well! One old lover isn’t enough for you? You had to find a younger one, too? How many times have you cheated on Steven?!”
“No wonder Steven won’t touch you. He’s always been a clean freak. A woman like you, who knows what kind of diseases you carry. He’s right to stay away. I’m glad I didn’t give up. I had to check every single department in this hospital to find him. If I hadn’t, I would have missed this little rendezvous!”
“You little tramp! How did my son end up marrying a promiscuous woman like you? What a disgrace!”
Julian saw me and instantly understood. The situation was so shocking, he didn’t know what to be angry about first. He began to gasp for breath.
“Zephyra, this sharp-tongued shrew is your mother-in-law? And he’s disgusted by *you*?!”
Horace’s eyes narrowed, a dangerous glint in them.
I ignored him and rushed to Julian’s side. “It’s okay, Uncle Julian, don’t get worked up. I’ll handle this.”
Uncle Julian’s heart was weak; it had been less than two weeks since his surgery. I couldn’t let Mary agitate him.
