I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 157

Gordon looked slightly guilty as he chose his words carefully. “Mr. Lancaster is in a meeting. Would you like to wait in the lounge?”

I patiently took a seat in the waiting area.

Gordon brought me a cup of coffee. “Ma’am, why did you leave so suddenly the other day? Mr. Lancaster was looking for you everywhere. He was very worried.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Worried about what?”

I thought he was angry that I had ignored him and left with Horace. Why would he be worried?

Gordon frowned.

“Lucid Works has some influence over there, and we couldn’t reach you. Your phone was off, you weren’t answering messages, and you weren't at the hotel. I’ve never seen Mr. Lancaster so agitated. His face was… it was terrifying.”

“If I hadn’t found the note you left at the hotel, Mr. Lancaster was about to call the police and go after Lucid Works himself.”

I was taken aback. I hadn’t realized he had been that frantic. But then I just shrugged it off with a noncommittal “Oh” and took a sip of my coffee.

It must have been hard for him, having to find time to search for me while taking care of Verna.

“I heard those two from Lucid Works are in jail. Was it because Verna was so traumatized?”

Gordon rubbed his nose.

“Ms. Garcia’s condition is not good. She had a head injury, and the trauma has left her very unstable. I couldn’t handle her, so I had to call Mr. Lancaster back.”

“But Mr. Lancaster went after Lucid Works for you, not for Ms. Garcia.”

I looked up at him, my expression saying, *You must think I’m an idiot.* I smiled sweetly.

“Are you joking?”

Gordon looked at me with complete seriousness.

“Ma’am, on the day you and Ms. Garcia were attacked, didn’t you notice that Mr. Lancaster was really focused on you? He attacked them for you. You know Mr. Lancaster has a sharp tongue, but he rarely gets physical. That day, he nearly beat the young master of Lucid Works to death. He even crippled him. Who else would he do that for?”

Gordon truly was Steven’s loyal right-hand man, to be able to spin a tale like that.

Steven hadn’t even wanted to bother with me at first. It was only when I told him how badly Verna had been hurt that he exploded.
