I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 215

I finished my tirade in one breathless rush. Without even waiting for his reaction, I grabbed my phone, threw open the car door, and stormed off.

I didn't see the dark, murderous rage that instantly clouded his face, the look that said he wanted nothing more than to shatter my kneecaps. I only found out later that he’d never encountered someone as stubborn as me—someone so far beneath him in status and power who refused to bow, who even dared to challenge him. Gritting his teeth, he gunned the engine and sped past, leaving me in a cloud of dust.

I stopped in my tracks, taking a deep, steadying breath.

“Just get through tomorrow,” I muttered to myself. “Once tomorrow is over, I’ll be free. That bastard Steven will never get to me again!”

Luckily, this wasn’t the suburbs. It was much easier to get a ride here than near the Lancaster estate. Using the money my dad had transferred me, I opened a rideshare app and added a generous twenty-dollar surcharge to get a car faster.

Once I was in the car, I called Rachel. Steven had hung up on her earlier, and I knew she’d be worried.

She answered almost immediately, her voice urgent.

“Zephyra, why did you hang up on me? Did you see the news? I was so worried! Where are you? I’m coming to get you.”

A warmth spread through my chest. “I’m fine,” I reassured her. “Steven was the one who hung up. I’m on my way to the hospital to see Uncle Julian.”

Now that I had the money, I was going to move him to another hospital tomorrow to prepare for his second surgery. In my past life, the grass on his grave was already tall by now. I wouldn’t be able to rest until his heart condition was treated.
