I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 229

I paused, turning to him. “I have to get to work. Steven and I are about to get a divorce, so you can stop calling me ‘Ma’am.’ He’s still back there. You can go to him.”

I started to leave, but Gordon stepped in my way. “Ma’am.”

He looked conflicted, his brow deeply furrowed. “For the past two months, Mr. Lancaster has been plagued by headaches and nightmares. The nightmares have lessened, but the headaches are getting worse. He says it feels like someone is tearing his body apart, like a punishment. Today, he almost collapsed from the pain. I’m really worried that one day he might pass out.”

“He’s been checked by doctors, but they can’t find anything wrong. They say it might just be stress. But I’ve noticed a pattern. Whenever he argues with you, he gets these terrible headaches. I think… I think his illness might be related to you.”

I frowned. “He gets a headache every time we argue?”

We had argued several times over the past two months. He must have been in constant pain.

He never had this problem in our past life. Why was he so different now? Could it be because of my rebirth?

Gordon looked down. “I can’t say for sure. I’m not with him twenty-four-seven. But from what I’ve observed, yes. Ma’am, Mr. Lancaster needs you right now. Do you really have to get a divorce? Why are you so determined?”

“If you’re thinking of divorcing him because you feel he doesn’t love you, that you feel neglected, then I have to tell you, you’ve misunderstood everything. Mr. Lancaster has done so much for you behind the scenes…”

A cold, deep voice cut him off. “Gordon, what are you dawdling for?”

I looked over and saw Steven standing a short distance away. He was handsome and striking, his mere presence drawing glances from passersby. His brow was furrowed in displeasure.

Gordon gave me a conflicted look, then sighed. “Ma’am, I have to go.”

He went to get the car for Steven. Steven didn’t even spare me a glance, as if looking at me would give him a heart attack. He got into the car without a word.

The car pulled away, leaving me standing there.
