I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 309

“Mrs. Lancaster, don’t you know Jacob has a sensitive stomach and can’t drink? If you’re so intent on seducing him, you should at least care about his well-being. Or is this about what happened at the villa the other day? Are you still holding a grudge and using Jacob to get back at me?”

Myron’s face fell. “Zephyra?!”

All traces of his earlier flirtation vanished, his expression hardening as he shot a razor-sharp glare at Verna.

“Apologize to her. Right now. Or I swear, for that one glass of water, I will make you regret it for the rest of your life.”

Verna’s fists clenched, her beautiful face a mask of defiance.

“Why should I apologize? Don’t you think what you’ve done is disgusting, Mrs. Lancaster? At first, I just thought you two were a little too close for comfort.”

“But then he started defending you, choosing you over me, time and time again. I told myself not to overthink it, but Jacob would never go out drinking with another woman. He always puts me first when I’m upset. But because of you, everything has changed. I don’t understand. You’re a married woman. Why are you trying to steal my boyfriend? Do you have no conscience?!”

Myron’s brow furrowed. “You’re Jacob’s girlfriend? What the hell are you talking about? How is she stealing your boyfriend?”

I wiped the lemon water from my face and met Verna’s gaze. Her eyes were red, as if she were the most wronged person in the world. I used to find her pitifully beautiful, but now all I saw was arrogance and a talent for wild assumptions.

“Did you see me seduce him? Did you see me force-feed him alcohol to get revenge on you? Do you have any proof? Show me.”

Verna bit her lip, her eyes burning with contempt.

“He wouldn’t even see me off when I was leaving the country, claiming he was working late, but he was really with you. Then you sent someone to drive me, as if marking your territory. You knew what happened to me overseas.”

“He knew, too, but he didn’t come to me. He said he was too busy. But my friends saw him, chatting and laughing with you. He didn’t pick me up from the airport when I got back. He wouldn’t even answer my calls on a Saturday—a day he never works.”

“And his friends told me he was out drinking, celebrating his supervisor’s win at some design competition. You’re his supervisor. You won that competition. I may not have concrete evidence that you seduced him, but with all these suspicious incidents piling up, can you really say I’m wrong about you?”
