I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 631

I was speechless.

Damn it.

So that's what he meant.

I puffed out my cheeks.

See? This is why my "lane" is so crowded. It's not just women who are after handsome, rich men. Men are, too.

I put down the knife and sulkily started to prepare the meat sauce. Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through my head. My vision went black, and I collapsed.

"Holy crap!" David yelled, jumping back as I fell stiffly to the floor in front of him. "What the—you just fainted!"

He shook me, but I didn't respond. He bolted out of the kitchen, shouting, "Mom! Mom! That woman passed out! The really pretty one in the purple coat! Come quick!"

Before the proprietor could even reach the kitchen, a tall figure rushed in first. He tossed aside the drink he was holding and knelt on the dirty floor, gently tapping my face.

"Zephyra. Zephyra, wake up." David stammered, "It wasn't my fault! Sh-sh-she just... she was talking and then she fainted."

Before he could finish, Steven swept me into his arms and headed out. The proprietor and Gordon hurried over, their faces etched with panic.

The proprietor asked, "What happened? Is it low blood sugar? The poor girl is so thin. Maybe give her some sugar water."

Gordon's face was tense. "I'll call an ambulance."

My body felt limp and weak, but my consciousness was slowly returning. I heard the cold, urgent voice of the man holding me. "Get the car. Call the hospital and tell them to have a team ready at the entrance."

"Right."

It was Steven, carrying me toward the door.

I managed to take a breath and tug weakly at his shirt. "Honey... no hospital."

I hate the smell of antiseptic. When I first woke up, all I wanted was to get out of the hospital, and I still dreaded going back.

Steven looked down and saw I was awake. His tense body relaxed slightly. "How do you feel?"

I leaned weakly against him, nuzzling my head against his chest. "I'm fine... just really hungry."

During the days I was unconscious, I'd been on an IV. Since waking up, I've barely been able to eat. Last night I finally managed a proper meal, but I threw most of it up.
