I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 645

“You never used to talk to me this way. Did that deviant woman, Zephyra, corrupt you? Did she tell you to cut ties with us? She’s got some nerve. Stay away from her. If you won’t, I’ll deal with her myself!”

A few seconds of silence passed on Steven’s end, followed by a voice as sharp and cold as a razor blade against skin.

“My attitude and my decisions have nothing to do with her.”

“You’re getting old. You’re no match for me. So unless you want to spend your final years lying in a hospital bed, you will not touch the people you shouldn’t.”

The line went dead with a series of beeps.

Mr. Sean Lancaster’s face was livid. Breathing heavily, he slammed his phone down on the table.

“My son used to be smart, sensible. Even though he was cold and quiet, his focus was always on his career. He was never this distant from us. Now… hah.”

Verna, young, beautiful, and innocent-looking, sat beside him, pouring him a cup of tea. She spoke in a soft, gentle voice.

“You shouldn’t get so angry; it’s bad for your health. But it is troubling that a man as brilliant as Mr. Lancaster has been so completely bewitched by a woman who doesn’t love him and may not even be alive.”

Mr. Lancaster calmed down quickly. “He didn’t run off to that village for two days to inspect a project or relax,” he said coolly. “He went to find Zephyra. She’s alive. But it seems there’s something wrong with her mind.”

Verna’s heart skipped a beat. She lowered her eyes, fiddling with a small herbal packet in her hands. “It sounds like Mr. Lancaster is going to get entangled with her all over again.”

She offered a lighthearted suggestion. “They say the best way for a man to get over one woman is to quickly replace her with another. It’s a shame Mr. Lancaster is too devoted to even consider anyone else.”

Mr. Lancaster studied Verna intently. “You have a crush on my son, don’t you? Otherwise, you wouldn’t have gone to the trouble of ‘bumping into’ us at the hospital, arranging for my wife’s appointments, and staying behind to give me acupuncture treatments.”

“I see I can’t hide anything from you,” Verna said, feigning surprise. She lifted her hand, revealing a watch worth a small fortune on her wrist, and shyly tucked her hair behind her ear. “But then, what woman in this country doesn’t have a crush on Mr. Lancaster?”

“I admit I engineered our meeting to get closer to you, but treating you was simply my professional instinct as a doctor. I hope you don’t mind.”

Mr. Lancaster noted the expensive watch, his eyes deepening slightly as he smiled. “Of course not. Countless women adore my son. I find you quite charming and resourceful. There’s a high-society gala in a few days.”
