I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 655

Since we were being this honest, and my ex-lover was now back in the picture, some things had to be said, no matter how cruel.

Even if it meant losing Steven’s help right this second, I was prepared for it.

I couldn’t lie to him just for my own convenience.

I expected Steven to get angry. After all, what I’d just said was quite hurtful, especially now that I knew he was in love with me. It was like twisting a knife in his heart.

But Steven’s expression remained unchanged. He gazed at me with deep, somber eyes and a ghost of a smile. “Oh? So once you fall in love with me, you’ll be willing to remarry me?”

Seeing his determination to press the issue, I answered cautiously, “Maybe.”

He pinched my cheek firmly, a cool laugh escaping him. I couldn’t tell if he was laughing at my stubbornness or my reasons for rejecting him. But he didn’t push me further. He just tightened his grip on my waist and spoke in a low, even voice.

“You don’t have to remarry me. But Horace… I forbid you from getting entangled with him again.”

“His advances, his declarations of love—you will reject them just as you’ve rejected me. Otherwise…” A sarcastic curl touched Steven’s handsome lips, and his tone became chilling. “You and I won’t be finished.”

His threat lacked any real substance.

I wasn't scared.

But as I thought about it, Horace was the man I’d had an affair with. Since I was determined to turn over a new leaf, I couldn't get involved with him in the same messy way as before. So, I nodded firmly.

Steven released his grip on me.

His emotions were perfectly composed as his long fingers fiddled with the bag of ice cream.

“The ice cream has melted a bit. Still want it?”

“Of course!” I looked down and saw that only the top layer was soft. It was fine. I grabbed a spoon and started eating, sitting on the chair by the window to savor it.

Steven sat in the other chair, digging into his own container of the same ice cream.

The room suddenly fell quiet.

The bright moon shone through the window, casting a gentle glow over both of us, filling the room with a sense of peace.

I diligently ate my ice cream while he ate with a casual elegance, like a celestial being I had dragged down to the mortal world.

I watched his flawless face, my mind wandering as I ate.

A man this handsome was in love with me, yet I felt nothing. It was a little strange.

Then again, Horace was also very good-looking. Maybe I wasn't that fickle after all; I just preferred my lover.
