I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 679

I didn’t hear Gordon’s reply. I just saw him hang up and start searching for something on his phone.

His brow was tightly furrowed as he scanned through news alerts and trending topics. Sure enough, he found the headline: “Fiancée of Aether Studio CEO Stuns at Charity Auction.”

He clicked on the article. The photos showed the fiancée wearing a mask, her face obscured, but for a secretary with a keen eye for people, her figure and posture were a dead giveaway.

Seeing his frown, I assumed he was upset about the scolding he’d just received and spoke softly, “Why didn’t you tell his mother which hospital he’s in? Aren’t you afraid of getting fired?”

Gordon put his phone away. “Mr. Lancaster has cut ties with Mrs. Lancaster. I can’t tell her, or I’d be betraying him. As for getting fired…”

He smiled confidently. “No one can fire me except Mr. Lancaster.”

Gordon pushed my wheelchair into the elevator. I remarked, “You seem very loyal to Steven. I don’t just mean as an employee.”

“Yes. I’ve been with Mr. Lancaster for seven years. We’re more like friends than an employee and his boss. He’s the most capable CEO I’ve ever met—down-to-earth, approachable, with a good sense of humor. Not like my previous bosses, who weren’t nearly as successful but acted like they were royalty and treated me like a servant.” He pressed the button for my floor and continued in a softer voice, “That’s why I hope Mr. Lancaster gets what he wants. All he wants is to be with you, forever. You can sense that, can’t you?”

My hands tightened on the armrests, and I pressed my lips together without a word.
