Thomas bit his lip, hardened his heart, and swung his hand. The slap cracked like a firecracker.
Verna had been gritting her teeth and holding on, but with this real blow, her knees buckled. She collapsed pathetically to the floor, her face hitting the ground. The searing pain made her gasp, and tears welled up in her eyes.
"Steven!" she choked back her tears, glaring up at the man before her. "I told you I didn't do it! Why would you believe the word of that venomous woman over mine?"
Thomas's brow furrowed as he stared at her in disbelief.
He knew Steven's temper better than anyone. All she had to do was apologize, but instead, she dared to argue with him.
He snuck a glance at Steven, who looked perfectly composed, as if everything was under control. Their eyes met, and Thomas instantly understood the meaning behind his gaze.
Thomas steeled himself again, grabbed Verna by the collar, and without hesitation, rained a fresh torrent of slaps across her face.
Verna was beaten so badly she couldn't speak, only managing weak whimpers. Her face swelled up quickly, becoming almost unrecognizable.
After some time, Steven finally called out languidly, "Stop!"
Thomas immediately stopped and turned to Steven, his face plastered with a sycophantic smile.
"I knew you wouldn't be too hard on her. Don't worry, I'll teach her a lesson from now on. I guarantee she'll never dare to do it again."
However, Steven just gave him a cold glance. "Zephyra is about to wake up. If she doesn't see this person when she does, she'll be unhappy!"
Thomas: "..."
So this was all for Zephyra. He was spoiling her rotten!
Just then, Gordon knocked and entered. "Mr. Lancaster, Madam is awake. They just took her blood pressure, and everything is normal!"
