I stared at the phone, my curiosity at its peak. I was on the verge of asking him about it, but my rational side told me that if I did, I'd give myself away.
Just as I was debating with myself, a large hand silently snatched the phone away.
Steven's deep, magnetic voice sounded from above me. “You're pregnant. You shouldn't be staring at your phone for so long. Finish your soup first.”
I turned and shot him an annoyed glare, muttering to myself, “We just set the ground rules about you not interfering, and this damn man has already forgotten!”
I was about to lash out when I saw Steven glance down at the phone. His calm expression instantly darkened, his eyes turning grim, clearly showing his anger.
Knowing Steven, he wasn't just angry—he was furious.
What was the big deal?
He was the one who gave me permission to look at his phone.
Since it had come to this, I decided to be direct. “What did you do behind Verna's back? And what did she mean by that 'fate' of yours?”
Hearing this, Steven coolly slipped the phone into his pocket, his action making his stance clear—the matter was closed.
“She's just spouting nonsense. She just wants me to help her find a doctor.”
I stared at him suspiciously, my expression screaming, “Do you really think I believe that?”
Steven deliberately averted his gaze, pretending not to notice. He brought the soup to me. “Drink it while it's hot.”
As he spoke, he thoughtfully brought the spoon to my lips, clearly unwilling to continue the conversation.
