I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 762

After a moment of silence, Steven said coldly, "I'll call Gordon right now and have him investigate this thoroughly."

I nodded, feeling a little more at ease.

With Steven handling it, the matter would surely be dealt with much more easily.

In my past life, Steven didn't know when Queena came after me, and I had underestimated her insanity, which led to an irreversible tragedy.

But now, with Steven here—powerful, influential, and intelligent—he certainly wouldn't let Queena get a chance to harm me. She probably wouldn't even be able to get through the front gate of the estate.

As my mood lightened, the soup tasted much sweeter. I didn't notice the dark, predatory look on Steven's face, his eyes sharp as if ready to devour someone.

After eating, I went downstairs for a walk to aid my digestion. At three months pregnant, my belly was already showing a slight curve, as if I'd just had a big meal, and my pace was much slower than usual.

Just as I returned to my room, I found Tess standing at the door holding a basin. "Ma'am, may I come in?"

I nodded, my eyes drawn to the basin. As she came closer, I saw a dark bundle inside it.

Tess explained with a smile, "Ma'am, this is a heated foot bath, and the herbal sachet inside is specially formulated for pregnant women. Pregnancy can be tiring, so a short soak can help you relax and prevent foot swelling."

I hadn't been paying much attention, but my eyes lit up at her last sentence.

Ever since regaining my past memories, I'd felt a sense of dread about pregnancy, especially the thought of leg cramps and swollen feet in the later stages.

If this could really prevent swollen feet, I could finally get a good night's sleep.

"I'll give it a try."

I had always done things for myself, and I was only pregnant, not incapacitated. I just couldn't accept having someone else wash my feet.

Tess smiled. "I know you feel a bit awkward, Ma'am. How about this? I'll ask Mr. Lancaster to help you."

Before I could refuse, Tess continued, "This is both of your child. You're the one who's pregnant, you're the one gaining weight, and you're the one feeling all the discomfort. Mr. Lancaster can't just do nothing and wait for the baby to be born, can he? Don't you think that's unfair?"

"Or are you just going to let Mr. Lancaster comfortably wait for the baby's arrival without lifting a finger?"

Her words struck a nerve. Although I kept insisting the baby was mine, Steven's connection to the child was undeniable.

I was enduring all the hardships of pregnancy while Steven just waited to become a father. Why should he have it so easy?
