I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 780

Steven’s face was grim as he followed me in. He was about to sit down next to me, but Ryan beat him to it.

Ryan shot Steven a smug look, the challenge written all over his face.

That guy Ryan really knows how to ask for a beating, I thought. If it weren’t for me, Steven would have dealt with him ages ago.

Steven poured a glass of water and respectfully offered it to Uncle Julian, but my uncle only gave it a cold glance and didn’t take it.

Steven wasn’t offended. He placed the glass on the table in front of Uncle Julian and said calmly, “I know you came to check on Zephyra today, Uncle Julian. You can rest assured I'll take good care of her. And after the baby is born, I promise I'll bring her to visit you!”

Steven was so good at playing dumb. He knew exactly why Uncle Julian was here.

Uncle Julian snorted. “Don’t bother. The Lopez family can afford to raise a child.”

With that, he turned to me, his tone instantly softening. “Zephyra, go pack your things. You’re coming home with me. I’ve already hired several full-time nannies. They’ll make sure you and the baby are well taken care of.”

I smiled and agreed. “Okay.”

But Steven immediately objected. “No.”

Our voices overlapped, but his was distinctly louder.

I smirked coldly. “Steven, you don’t have the right to refuse.”

The baby was in my body. I could do whatever I wanted.

Steven’s brow tightened. “You promised me you wouldn’t leave!”

I was speechless. The nerve of him to twist things like that.

My face hardened. “Steven, are you deaf or just delusional? When did I ever promise that? You’re the one who has been shamelessly clinging to me.”

“And I made it very clear before that I was only allowing you to stay by my side for a short time.”

Besides, unless Steven had completely lost his mind, he wouldn’t dare make a move against Uncle Julian. Not unless he was ready for an all-out war with the Lopez family.

Steven lowered his gaze. “You’re overthinking it, Uncle Julian. You’re my elder. I would never raise a hand to you.”

“Zephyra can go with you, but I have to go too. She’s pregnant, and I need to be there to take care of her.”

Steven's voice was quiet, laced with a hint of pathetic-sounding desperation.

Ryan, who was taking a sip of water, nearly choked.

He turned to Steven and muttered, “What’s wrong with your ex-husband? Did he hit his head or something? He's like a different person.”

I looked at Ryan’s shocked expression and thought to myself, *You haven’t seen anything yet.*

Whenever I deliberately ignored Steven, he would act like a lost puppy, clinging to me and nuzzling his chin against my shoulder while whispering apologies and sweet nothings. I couldn’t push him away even if I tried. If Ryan ever saw him like that, his jaw would hit the floor.
