I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 783

Uncle Julian served me a piece of fish, then snapped at Ryan, “Stop your whining. I told her to make it this way. Your cousin is pregnant; she needs to eat a bland diet.”

Ryan was speechless for a moment, then muttered, “But this is way too bland!”

Uncle Julian’s face was stern. “If you don’t like it, you can leave. Your cousin’s health is the priority right now.”

I whispered, “Uncle Julian, I also think it’s a little…”

Before I could finish, Uncle Julian interrupted me in a gentle tone. “You’re young, you don’t understand these things. Eating like this is good for the baby. I’ll listen to you on other matters, but you have to listen to me on this.”

With him putting it that way, there was nothing more I could say.

Throughout the meal, Uncle Julian kept putting food on my plate, and I had to force myself to eat it. In the end, I barely touched my rice.

After lunch, Tess brought me a plate of fruit. I usually just nibbled on fruit, but today I finished half the plate in no time.

Tess handed me a napkin. “Ma’am, please eat slowly.”

Perhaps it was the pregnancy, but my palate had changed, and I just couldn’t stomach food that tasted like it was boiled in plain water.

An idea sparked in my mind. “Next time, sneak in some seasoning.”

Tess frowned. “That’s not going to happen. Mr. Lopez was watching me the whole time I was cooking today. He wouldn’t let me use anything but salt. I tried to add a little soy sauce, and he scolded me!”

“But he’s just doing what’s best for you, so I can’t really complain.”

“…”

Uncle Julian was a stubborn man. Once he made up his mind, it was hard to change it, just like with that villa he was so determined to give me.

It was early autumn, and the two o’clock sun was still bright. I went to the window to draw the curtains and glanced outside, noticing a black luxury car parked under a tree beyond the fence.

I couldn’t help but stare for a moment. It wasn’t strange to see luxury cars in this exclusive neighborhood, but they were usually parked in garages, rarely on the street.

Though it was odd, I didn't dwell on it and closed the curtains.

Unsurprisingly, dinner was much the same as lunch. I could barely eat anything, and most of the food on the table was left untouched.

To Uncle Julian, the meal was nutritionally balanced, just lacking a bit of salt. He had grown used to it from when he was sick and didn't realize how torturous it was for Ryan and me.

I ate a little and went back to my room. Tess secretly brought me some cookies.

As she changed the bedding, Tess said, “Ma’am, the temperature is dropping tomorrow, and there’s heavy rain in the forecast for the next few days, so I’m putting a thicker duvet on for you. Also, since you tend to kick off the covers, you should leave your door unlocked. I’ll check on you during the night and pull them back up.”
