I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 791

I glared at Steven. “Are you threatening me?”

Steven shook his head. “Of course not. I just want to spend a little more time with you.”

I gritted my teeth, a million protests screaming in my head, but I finally gave in. “Fine, I'll do it!”

Just this once, I thought to myself. After tonight, I'll never let Steven set foot in my house again.

Steven let go, and I tried to compose myself before opening the door. Ryan was there, his hand frozen mid-knock. “Zephyra! What are you doing?”

His eyes darted past me, trying to peer into the room.

I faked a yawn, trying to act casual. “Oh, I had a stomachache, so I was in the bathroom.”

Ryan looked at me suspiciously. “Really? You're not lying to me?”

I waved my hand impatiently and started pushing him out. “It's late. I'm going to bed, and you should too.”

“But, Zephyra—” Ryan didn't get to finish before I pushed him out the door.

I shut the door and turned to see Steven coming out of the bathroom. I was furious, but what could I do? He didn't have any pajamas, so I had to dig out a pair of my own for him.

Maybe the whole ordeal had worn me out, because by the time he was done washing up, I was already drifting off to sleep.

In my dream, I felt like I was being held tightly by a big teddy bear. It was so warm.

When I opened my eyes again, the space beside me was empty. I grabbed my phone and saw it was ten o'clock...

I can't believe I slept so soundly!

I unlocked my phone to find a flood of unread messages from Horace. He wanted to see me.

I nodded.

Tess was beaming. “Ma'am, he's your friend? His music is amazing, and he's so handsome! If he went into acting, he'd be even more famous!”

Her words made my expression darken.

Horace might be recovering well, but the doctors said the chance of him ever walking again was less than one percent, and that was the best-case scenario.

That meant Horace would be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life, unless he got prosthetics, but that would require amputating his legs...

Just the thought was excruciating. How could Horace possibly endure such a blow?

Tess, still giddy with the excitement of meeting a celebrity, was completely oblivious to my mood shift. “Ma'am, is Horace really as handsome as he looks in his posters?”
