Chapter 392 Pinky Promise
They weren’t to be mistreated.
Julie was confident they couldn’t escape.
Given this relative freedom, Violet never gave up on finding a way out.
Now that Nina and Nelson were here, that desire burned even stronger.
“Nina, don’t be scared,” Violet said. “I’ll get us out of here. I promise.”
Violet couldn’t carry both children at once.
The two of them together were just too heavy.
So, she carried Nelson-prompted by Nina.
Nina, who usually demanded to be carried, was being more considerate now.
She knew this was Nelson’s first time with his mommy, so she didn’t compete.
With Nelson in her arms, Violet searched the room for any possible escape route.
Nina watched her and joined the search.
Being short, Nina couldn’t check windows or high places.
She just mimicked Violet, wandering around.
She lifted the toilet lid and peeked inside.
And she opened shoeboxes.
Nina wasn’t sure what she was looking for.

Her busy exploration took her into the kitchen. There, in a corner, a tiny shape caught her eye.
It was a hamster, clearly someone’s pet.
It didn’t belong here, but there it was, nibbling on something.
Nina’s chubby little hand shot out faster than expected, whooshing as she snatched up the hamster.
The startled hamster tensed to bite but somehow held back.

It just sat there in her grip, beady black eyes staring at her helplessly.
Nina held the hamster and made her plea. “Save Nina? Nina no out.”
She repeated her request several times.
At first, the hamster didn’t react.
But after a few repetitions, the little creature seemed to realize playing dead wasn’t working.
It let out a few squeaks and nodded its head.
Seeing it nod, Nina gently touched its tiny paw.
“Pinky promise,” she said, making a little hook with her finger against its paw.
After forcing the “pinky promise,” she set the hamster down.
“You small,” Nina observed, even though she herself was tiny.
She told the hamster to go find a big friend to come save her.
Surprisingly, the hamster seemed to understand and nodded again.
Violet and Nelson missed Nina’s entire interaction with the hamster.
They were still searching for a solution.
“If we could just open this window… we could jump,” Violet said, studying the frame. “If we jump, maybe we can get out.”
She was still examining it when the gloomy sky suddenly changed. Rain began to fall.
Drops splattered against the glass. Seeing the weather, Violet felt even more discouraged. This made escaping so much harder.
The rain had the opposite effect on Nina.
Nina loved rain.
Now she wanted to be held. “Up!” she demanded, reaching for Violet.
“Rain!” she announced, pressing her chubby cheek against the cool glass.
She stared outside, her eyes full of longing. “Nina out play.”

Nina loved stomping in puddles when it rained.

Even before she could walk, she’d insisted on going outside in any weather. Rain or shine, she demanded her daily outdoor time.
Back then, even in a downpour, Amelia would hold an umbrella in one hand and cradle Nina in the other, standing outside for a few minutes.
Once Nina could walk, Amelia bought her a full set of tiny rain gear-coat, boots, and her own little umbrella to play with.
Rainy or snowy days were Nina’s favorite.
“Nina, we will go out to play,” Nelson told her, seeing the longing in her eyes.
The heavy rain showed no sign of stopping, continuing for two or three hours straight.
Julie checked on them once during that time.
Seeing them all present and accounted for, she went to get some rest.
It was late at night now.
Late night, rainy weather-it was perfect for sleeping.
But Nina wasn’t sleeping.
