Chapter 391 I Would Care For You

Seeing Violet there, Nina was overjoyed.

“Violet!” Nina cried happily, launching herself forward and burying her head in Violet’s lap.

Her sudden appearance surprised Violet, too.

Violet asked her how she’d gotten there.

Nina still couldn’t understand Violet’s words.

But Nina knew how to tattle.

She tilted her chubby face up and reported seriously, “Cacch Nina. Bad guy cacch Nina. Nina

no scare.”

While Nina gave her earnest account, Violet picked her up and checked her for injuries.

Luckily, Nina hadn’t struggled much when she was taken, so she was unhurt.

Seeing she was okay, Violet sighed in relief.

As the two were having their moment, Nelson, who had followed Nina in, stood frozen in place. He stared at Violet, his eyes wide.

He’d been staring for a while now.

He didn’t rush over like Nina had, but just stood there, unmoving.

Finally, after Nina finished her cuddle, she remembered Nelson.

“Nelson,” Nina said, walking over to take his hand.

She led him to Violet and made introductions.

“Violet, you baby,” Nina told Violet. Then she turned to Nelson. “Nelson, Mommy. Hug now?”

Nina loved hugging her own mommy, so seeing Nelson meet his mom, she thought he should hug her, too.

But Nelson didn’t hug her.

His little mind was blank.

He’d imagined this moment many times before-what it would be like if he saw his mother

again.

But now that the scene was real, he found he couldn’t move at all.

Finished

Under Nina’s expectant, tilted-head gaze, Nelson’s face remained stiff. His voice was tight when he finally spoke.

He delivered his first words to Violet. “I’m Nelson. I’m four. I’m your son. You… you don’t want me?”

Nelson had already realized Violet wasn’t a ghost.

The Violet standing before him was alive.

But a living Violet had never come home.

So, Nelson thought, maybe Violet didn’t want him.

Nelson said all this in the foreign language.

So Violet understood.

And upon understanding, she clearly froze, too.

She crouched down, her gaze fixed on Nelson’s little face.

The two looked at each other.

Nelson’s nervous face showed no expression.

His little fists were clenched tight as he was waiting for Violet’s answer.

After what felt like a long time, Violet reached out and gently touched Nelson’s cheek.

“My son?” she whispered. “You’re my son?”

Violet had no memory of a son, but looking at the child before her, her heart was pounding wildly.

My heart… it seems to want to say something more than my

brain does.

“I can’t remember a lot of things,” Violet explained, her tone fairly calm, though tears had inexplicably welled in her eyes. “I don’t know if I have a child.”

Nelson heard her explanation.

It gave him a little courage.

He looked up at her and asked, “You sick?”

Violet nodded.

Nelson pressed his lips together. When he learned Violet was sick, he awkwardly-even a bit stiffly-copied how Nina comforted people and put his arms around her.
