Chapter 394 Wait For Me
Violet, who had been carrying Nina and Nelson, wasn’t in much better shape herself.
She had pushed herself to the absolute limit and truly couldn’t go on.

Violet lost consciousness. For the first time, Nelson was so scared that tears welled up in his
eyes.
“Mommy, wake up,” he pleaded, his voice trembling.
Having just found his mother, he was terrified she might die.
Nelson called for her, choked up.
Nina was frantic. Her own little face was flushed with fever, but she started moving, looking for help.
She looked to the animals for aid.
Nina knew many little creatures could understand her-like Gray, Whitey, or Spot.
So she called for Spot, then shouted for the other animals.
After Nina’s determined calls, it was finally the snake she knew best and liked the most that came slithering over.
The snake was actually quite afraid of Nina.
But it had heard her crying and recognized her distress.
Seeing it approach, Nina wiped her tears and begged, “Save Violet? Car. Doctor.”
She cried, asking for a car to save Violet.
The snake nodded.
Seeing it agree and start to lead the way, Nina and Nelson worked hard to rouse Violet.
When Violet came to, she was dizzy and disoriented.
Her mind was foggy.
Acting on instinct, she leaned lightly on Nelson for support and started moving forward.
The two leaned on each other as they walked.

Nina wanted to help support Violet, too.
But she had bad luck. Before she could reach Violet, her chubby little foot twisted, and she stumbled.
She tried to walk a few steps but winced in pain, tears filling her eyes.
Nina couldn’t walk.
After moving forward a few steps with Violet, Nelson realized Nina couldn’t keep up.
He stopped and looked back at her.
Nina sniffled, holding back her sobs.
“Nelson, go,” she urged. “Violet… doctor.”
Nina didn’t ask Nelson to carry her, and she didn’t ask the unsteady Violet to carry her either.
She told them to go on ahead.
“Nelson, Nina wait,” she said, promising to wait right there so they would leave.
She kept urging Nelson to go.
Nelson clenched his teeth. “Nina. Wait for me to come get you,” he promised.
He needed to follow the little snake to find a place with cars and people.
Finding people was their only chance of being rescued now.
If he had stopped and sat there with Nina, none of them would have been saved.
Nelson promised he would come back for Nina.
Not wanting to make her wait long, Nelson summoned all his strength to support Violet, trying to make her walk faster.
The two of them went ahead to find help.
Nina watched Nelson and Violet walk away. She plopped down and looked at her hurting foot.
She tugged her little shoe off.
Then she pulled off her soggy sock.

Looking at her bare foot, her lower lip quivered. “Foo’ fat,” she mumbled.
Nina didn’t know the word for “swollen.”
She just thought her foot looked fatter.
Nina touched her chubby foot, and it hurt even more.
“Daddy…” she whimpered.

With her foot hurting so much she couldn’t walk, and seeing Nelson and Violet disappear into
the distance, Nina finally couldn’t hold back. She burst into loud, miserable tears.
“Mommy! Grandpa! Nina home!” she wailed.
Nina, who usually loved being outside, just wanted to go home this time.
She cried, calling for every adult she knew.
Sadly, not a single one could hear her.
Crying and crying, worn out by her fever, Nina couldn’t hold on any longer.
Her chubby little body slumped to the muddy ground as she passed out from the fever.
Not long after she lost consciousness, a large dog, off its leash, came trotting over.
The dog looked like it belonged to someone.
