Chapter 428 Chocolate
Catherine didn’t say much when she saw Nina take the gemstone.
To most people, a stone like that was worth a fortune, but Catherine wasn’t short on such things. The Bernard family wasn’t either.
She saw no problem with it being given to Nina as an apology.
Nina stopped crying as soon as she had the gemstone.
She sniffled, pressing it against her dress. “Grandma, pin.”
ني
Nina, who loved pretty things, wanted to wear it right away.
Catherine used one hand to fasten it for her. Once it was on, Nina patted it with her little hands. Her cheeks were still wet, but her mouth broke into a grin.
“Grandma, Nina so pwetty!”
Catherine was silent for a second before replying, “Yes, you’re very pretty.”
Catherine looked at the now-happy Nina but still had no intention of staying. She was about to take Nina home.
But then Nina looked at Harry, who was also holding something out to her. Maybe because she hadn’t lost the fight, or maybe it was the chocolate in Harry’s hand that caught her eye. Nina didn’t want to leave.
She leaned her chubby little body out to take the chocolate from Harry.
With the chocolate in hand, Nina accepted Harry’s apology. Just like that, the two kids were fine.
Nina had the chocolate, but she couldn’t open the wrapper.
“Grandma, open,” she said, lifting her still-damp little face to Catherine.
Catherine asked, “Still want to go home?”
Nina shook her head without a second thought. “No.”
Hearing that Nina wasn’t leaving, and seeing that she had stopped crying, Anthony let out a sigh of relief beside them. He felt like he could breathe again.
While Anthony was celebrating his narrow escape, Catherine faced the stubborn little girl who

refused to leave. She had no choice. She opened the chocolate.
Finished
Back home, whenever Nina found a snack, she had to hunt someone down to open it for her.
Amelia restricted her treats. Sometimes, when Nina found a snack her mom had hidden, she’d run all over the house with it, unable to find anyone to help.
Those times, Nina would work herself into frustration and tears! Now, here was Catherine, opening chocolate for her without any fuss. Nina was over the moon.
“Grandma, Nina wuv you!”
Nina declared her love, but she didn’t offer Catherine any chocolate.
She only had one piece. It was too little. She couldn’t bear to give any away.
“Grandma, down,” Nina said, clutching the chocolate in her little hand. She had spotted a vaguely familiar figure in the distance and wanted to get a closer look.
Seeing that Nina’s mood had fully recovered, Catherine set her down to go play.
The moment Nina was on the ground, Harry, who had just given her the chocolate, looked at her with teary eyes, wanting to join her.
Nina couldn’t exactly say no after just taking his chocolate. She sniffed but didn’t push him
away.
Nelson was still a little wary of Harry, but since Nina had made peace, he didn’t say anything either.
A whole group of kids ran off after Nina.
The adults watched, both exasperated and amused that the kids who had just been fighting were now playing together.
Anthony watched Nina run off, hesitated for a moment, then finally asked Catherine, “When is Benjamin going back to Averton?”
Catherine glanced at him. “He just got here. He won’t be leaving so soon.”
Anthony’s expression soured instantly. He really, really wanted Benjamin to go back.
Catherine ignored Anthony’s pained look. She instructed the bodyguards to keep a close eye on Nina this time, then went back to rest.
Her energy wasn’t like Benjamin’s or Daniel’s-she couldn’t keep up with Nina for hours on end. Catherine preferred her quiet, solitary space.

While Catherine went to rest, Nina, leading her pack of kids, was clutching the chocolate so tightly it was starting to melt.
Nelson reminded her, “Nina, the chocolate will make your hands sticky. You should eat it.”
