Chapter 453 Evidence
Daniel was baffled. “That’s so weird!” he blurted out, eyeing Lester as if he was crazy.
He didn’t know Lester at all! Benjamin and Lester weren’t just strangers-they were enemies.
Why on earth would Lester suddenly want to see pictures of Benjamin? This guy is nuts!
Daniel was getting sharp, and Erik elbowed him again.
“Daniel, don’t talk to him like that! You know he holds grudges!” Erik hissed quietly.
Having spent a long time abroad, Erik had heard plenty of stories about Lester. He was genuinely afraid of him. He only ever bad-mouthed Lester in private!
Daniel was getting annoyed with Erik constantly elbowing him.
“Egg-Erik, you’re such a wimp,” Daniel retorted, using Erik’s nickname in his irritation.
Erik didn’t like being called that either. He took a small step away from Daniel. Fine, go ahead and dig your own grave.
But before Daniel could dig very deep, Benjamin brought Nina in.
The moment Nina saw Lester was awake, her little arms shot out.
“Hold me!” she demanded, her eyes already welling up.
Lester was lying in bed. Holding her would be a struggle right now.
Amelia, who had followed, quickly intervened. “Nina, Lester is hurt. He can’t hold you, okay?” she said gently. “We’ll have to wait until he’s better.”
Hearing Amelia’s explanation and seeing that Lester really wasn’t in a position to do it, Nina sniffled but didn’t insist.
She asked Benjamin to put her on Lester’s bed instead. Benjamin did so.
Amelia still wasn’t fully at ease. “Nina, be careful not to bump Lester, okay? It’ll hurt him,” she reminded from the side.
Nina nodded seriously. She sat cross-legged, facing Lester on the bed, and didn’t touch him. Instead, she patted her own forehead.
“Me hurt!” she announced, pointing to where the IV had been the day before, tattling earnestly to Lester. “Doc hit head!”
Amelia sighed, “Nina, it wasn’t the doctor. It was the nurse. She gave you a shot because you were sick,” she corrected, exhausted by her daughter’s daily tall tales.
Nina, having been corrected, wasn’t having it.
The room was getting a bit crowded. Lester’s condition wasn’t completely stable yet, and soon a doctor arrived to clear people out. They couldn’t have so many visitors in the room.
Benjamin had planned to stay with Nina, but William called. He stepped out to take it.
Lester’s voice was calm. “Do you have any pictures of Benjamin when he was little? I’d like to see one.”
Amelia was taken aback. “Uh…” she said, then fumbled for her phone. “I don’t have pictures, but
I have a video. Do you want to see that?”
She didn’t know why she was handing over her phone so quickly. She immediately regretted it.
I should have asked Benjamin first. This is his privacy.
But Lester had already reached out and taken it. It was too late to take it back now.
Hesitantly, Amelia opened her photo album and found the video for Lester.
The video she had saved was only a minute long. It showed a two-year-old Benjamin refusing to cooperate during a meal. A nanny was trying to feed him, and he, with a stern little face, just pushed the bowl away.
Amelia had saved this video specifically to show Benjamin. She called it “evidence.”
Whenever Nina was being difficult about eating, Amelia would tell Benjamin it was all his fault. Nina was just like he was as a child.
This short, one-minute video, Lester watched for a very, very long time. He played it over and over again.
Amelia started to feel strange. “Lester,” she ventured, “are you… done watching it?”
