Chapter 454 Spitting Image
Amelia couldn’t hold back and asked, “Is there something wrong with this video?”
Lester didn’t answer.
When Nina saw he wasn’t saying anything, she lifted her small hand as if to hit him. Only then did he speak.
“Spitting image,” he said in a low voice. “Exactly like the one in my memory.”
The difficult child from his memories had Benjamin’s childhood face.
Amelia was still confused by Lester’s words.
Before she could ask, Nina reached out her chubby hand for the phone.
She couldn’t understand the adults talking, so she wanted to play with the phone instead.
Lester wasn’t holding the phone tightly, and Nina managed to snatch it.
Nina saw the child in the video and her eyes went wide.
“Mommy, who?” she asked, pointing. “Nina not know!”
Nina hadn’t seen videos of Benjamin as a child. Even Daniel had rarely seen them.
Benjamin had too much pride. He knew his childhood videos weren’t particularly cute. So, he forbade others from watching them.
Only Amelia could watch them, even save them to her phone.
Seeing Nina’s intense curiosity about the kid in the video, Amelia quickly tried to change the subject.
“You’ve met lots and lots of kids already, haven’t you? You have so many friends. You don’t need to worry about this one,” she said with a laugh.
But Amelia’s attempt to divert her attention didn’t work. Nina wouldn’t listen.
Nina clutched the phone, refusing to give it back to Amelia.
“Mommy, call?” she asked, looking up at Amelia with her sweetest face,
She wanted Amelia to call the kid in the video! She wanted to play with him!
Amelia was speechless. She couldn’t possibly produce this child for Nina.
“Alright, Nina, be good now. Don’t make a fuss,” Amelia coaxed. “Give the phone back to Mommy. Nelson should be here soon. You can play with him.”
Amelia tried to pry the phone away.
She had other videos of Benjamin on there. Those videos absolutely couldn’t be seen by Nina. They would completely ruin Benjamin’s dignity as a father!
As Amelia wrestled for the phone, Lester spoke to her again.
“Amelia, could I ask you for another favor?”
Amelia paused her struggle. “What is it?” she asked.
“I need William’s phone number. Can you give it to me?” Lester asked, his expression serious. “I need to talk to him.”
But he was seriously starting to doubt–was Daniel really William’s child?
Benjamin seemed intelligent, calm, and logical. But Daniel… the gap was just too big.
When I go do a paternity test with William, I’ll suggest he get one with Daniel too.
It seems absolutely necessary.
Daniel felt a chill under Lester’s intense stare.
“Stop looking at me like that,” Daniel said, his tone sharpening, his expression growing more serious. “I’m not scared of you.”
Daniel insisted he wasn’t afraid, but as Lester continued to stare, his confidence wavered.
The slightly tense atmosphere was finally broken by the sound of Nina’s frustrated, tearful little voice.
“Mommy! My phone!” she cried, still fixated on the phone.
She absolutely had to play with that phone.
Amelia, seeing she was about to have a meltdown, tried to distract her with the TV on the wall. But Nina didn’t want the TV. She wanted the phone.
When she got stubborn, she was a real handful.
Amelia picked her up from the hospital bed to soothe her. Daniel, seeing Amelia move away, finally sat back down on the sofa.
