Chapter 58 Late Night
“You forgot to save my number for Nina.” Benjamin calmly pointed out Amelia’s slip-up earlier.
Amelia was caught off guard and stammered a bit.
“Well, I had no idea what your number was,” she mumbled.
They’d only connected through the WhatsApp group, and personal phone numbers were off-limits so far.
After Amelia’s soft admission, Benjamin whipped out his phone and shot his number over to her.
Then, he casually asked, “Need a picture?”
Amelia was thrown for a loop. “Huh?”
“For Nina’s phone watch. It needs a photo, right?” Benjamin explained matter-of-factly.
“Oh, yeah, that’s right.” Amelia finally realized. “Just one. Send it to me.”
“Don’t have one,” Benjamin replied simply.
Amelia gave him a puzzled look.
“You can snap one now,” Benjamin suggested.
Amelia’s heart skipped a beat at the thought of photographing his handsome face.
“I’m not good at taking pictures. Might not turn out well.” Amelia tried to dodge.
But Benjamin didn’t care.
He plopped down on the room’s sofa, motioning for Amelia to just take a quick shot.
With no way out, Amelia approached with her phone.
Benjamin was a sight to behold.
In a crisp white shirt and dress pants, he sat on Nina’s favorite white bear blanket. The sofa was a bit snug, so he had one leg bent and the other stretched out, showing off a perfect body proportion that could rival any top male model.
His chiseled face looked like a divine creation.
Amelia started rapid-firing pictures, her finger glued to the button.
After a bit, Benjamin tilted his head and gave her a quizzical look. “Not done yet?”
Amelia took one last burst and put away her phone. “All set. Want me to send you a copy?”
“Don’t need it,” Benjamin said.
He wasn’t into looking at pictures of himself.

After the photo-taking, Benjamin glanced at Nina, still chattering on the watch. “Need a hand?” he asked.
Amelia declined, saying, “I’ll give her a bath and tuck her in. You go get some rest.”
“Alright,” Benjamin said and headed back to the next room.
Once he was gone, Amelia went over to coax Nina off the phone.
She said gently, “Baby, you’ve been on the phone ages. Time for a bath. We’ll play with Nelson tomorrow, okay?”
Nina pouted, still wanting to keep talking.
But Amelia, seeing how late it was, insisted on getting her into the bath and then to bed.
As the night grew deeper, Nina, who hadn’t had her fill of phone-chatting, suddenly sat up in the middle of the night.
Quietly, she rubbed her eyes and unzipped the anti-fall net. She knew how to do it!
Then, bare-footed, she crawled out of bed.
A small night-light illuminated the area.
Nina felt around until she found the phone watch her mom had stashed away.
She knew Amelia didn’t want her to call. So, clutching the watch, she slowly made her way to the door.
The doorknob was out of reach. Nina stood on tiptoes but couldn’t grab it.
Undeterred, she fetched a small stool.
Standing on it, she managed to turn the knob and open the door.
The corridor outside was equipped with voice-activated lights.
Taking a few steps, little Nina let out a couple of soft grunts, and just like that, the lights flickered on.
With the illumination, her fear melted away,
Gripping her phone watch excitedly, she was about to make a call when a faint glow from Daniel’s room piqued her curiosity.
Without hesitation, she scurried over on her tiny feet.
“Un-coo Dan’el?” Nina called out.
Inside, there were several empty wine bottles strewn on the table. Daniel was slumped on the floor, his back propped against the sofa, looking utterly dejected.
Concerned, Nina shuffled closer and tugged at his arm. “Un-coo Dan’el, why?” she asked.
He was clearly drunk.
