York and Claudia left the party early, with Peter and Darleen following suit.
On the way home, Claudia sent a message to Gideon, making the excuse that she wasn’t feeling well and had gone home.
Gideon rushed downstairs and chased them to the door, but the butler, Palmer, informed him that Claudia had already left.
His second brother Benton, worried, followed him out. “Gideon, what’s wrong?”
Gideon just shook his head and said it was nothing. With the sudden turn of events at the banquet tonight, he hadn't been able to look after her properly.
The two brothers returned to Jackie's room. Gideon's mom asked about the situation.
Gideon explained that Claudia had felt unwell and left early.
His sister-in-law, Jackie, sat cross-legged on the bed and hissed softly. “When I asked her to stay and examine Grandma tonight, she agreed readily. She didn't seem unwell at all.”
Gideon's mom sighed. “After the scene at the banquet tonight, who would feel comfortable? Especially a young woman like her.”
Benton agreed. “Mom’s right. She probably left because she couldn't stand to watch it anymore.”
Gideon’s expression slowly hardened. Although Claudia was young, she was never one to leave things unfinished. She would have stuck to her promise even if she were sick. What was really going on?
Gideon stepped out of the room and called Claudia.
At that moment, York had just dropped Claudia off at the entrance to her apartment building.
As the luxury car came to a slow stop, Claudia glanced at York before calmly answering Gideon’s call.
Through the phone, Gideon’s concerned voice came through clearly. “Why are you suddenly feeling unwell? Did you catch a cold?”
“I think I have a bit of a cold, so I came back early,” Claudia said evasively. “You should get back to your guests, Gideon. I’m already home.”
