No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 737

York made an excuse and left midway through the meal. He had tried with all his might to control himself, but he knew he must have looked pathetic.

From the moment he had agreed to cancel their wedding, to retreat to the role of a childhood friend, and to witness her happiness from afar, he had been teetering on the edge of clarity and numbness, unable to fall and unable to find release.

Leaving the restaurant, York unexpectedly ran into Peter.

Peter pulled York into his car for a smoke. “When did you get back? Why didn’t you say anything?”

York seemed distracted, his long, elegant fingers flicking ash from his cigarette.

“After Claudia and Gideon got engaged, they moved into the home the Harvest family had prepared for them,” Peter told him.

Leaning back wearily against the seat, York said, “It’s normal for an engaged couple to live together.”

Peter watched him closely. “Easy for you to say. So why haven’t you thrown out all the stuff you two prepared for your wedding home?”

York turned his head to look out the window, hiding the crimson that flooded his eyes.

Half an hour later, Claudia and Gideon emerged from the restaurant.

They walked hand-in-hand along the sidewalk. “Let’s take a walk before we head back,” Gideon said.

Claudia stopped and let go of his hand. She tilted her head up, looking him in the eye. “Why did you rush over?”

Their eyes met, and Gideon didn’t look away. “Claudia,” he explained, “whatever happened between you and York in the past, you are my fiancée now. I trust you unconditionally.”

“I’m grateful to him for what he did with Eddy,” Gideon continued, “and I felt I needed to thank him in person. I came in a hurry because it was a rare opportunity, not because I had any doubts about you.”

“I’m sorry,” he added.
