Gideon had been even more attentive, clearing his schedule to stay by her side day and night for those three months. He had even flown her parents out to be with her. And while her parents were away, Gideon had brought her brother Eddy to live with the Harvest family. Gideon’s dad had Benton personally drive Eddy to and from school every day, ensuring he never felt neglected.
…
Gideon had thought of everything for her. Their home abroad always had fresh roses. He would plan elaborate surprises, indulge her childish whims, fill her life with romance, and whisper endless words of love.
The longer she was with Gideon, the luckier she felt. Now, her parents and brother had completely accepted him, treating him like a true member of the family.
She believed her life would only get better from here.
At eight o’clock the next morning, Claudia and Gideon were getting ready to leave for Darleen and Peter’s wedding with their daughter. Gideon took Claudia’s hand and looked into her eyes. “I heard from my parents yesterday that Mr. Ferguson has been single all these years.”
Claudia squeezed his hand. “York is an amazing person. He’ll definitely meet the right woman for him.”
An hour later, they arrived at Capital City’s largest church. When Claudia knocked and entered the bridal suite, everyone swarmed around her. Wendy’s eyes filled with tears the moment she saw Claudia leading her daughter in. Old Mr. Ferguson let out a soft sigh at the sight of the family of three. Sewell stared at the beautiful little girl beside Claudia and lowered his head, his heart aching for the grandchild that could have been his.
Darleen lifted the hem of her dress and stood up. “Claudia! I was starting to think you weren’t coming!”
“How could I possibly miss your wedding to Peter?” Claudia said, handing her a wedding gift.
Peter wanted to hold Mattie, and Gideon coaxed his daughter to greet him. Mattie mumbled “Uncle,” then hid behind Gideon, refusing to let Peter pick her up.
Just as everyone was gathered around Mattie, chatting and cooing at the child, York pushed the door open and walked in.
