Last night, she had been wildly audacious, saying anything that came to mind.
Now, it was as if she had amnesia, more relaxed than he was.
When Claudia's parents saw York, they warmly invited him to join them for lunch.
York was already used to it.
He sat next to Claudia, watching the warm scene of the Watkins family eating and chatting around the table, filled with envy.
Jessica put a piece of salmon on Claudia's plate.
But Claudia was busy putting a piece on York's plate instead.
Felix looked at his daughter's lovesick behavior and exchanged a glance with his wife.
While serving York, Claudia noticed a scratch on the back of his hand that had drawn blood.
She quickly shoveled a few more bites of rice into her mouth, then put down her bowl and chopsticks.
"I'm full."
Claudia pattered upstairs.
Jessica shook her head.
"What's gotten into that child today?"
Felix was thoroughly exasperated.
"Always so loud and restless, never acting proper. Just let her be."
After lunch, York went to the study with Felix.
After some hesitation, York told Felix what his father and grandfather had said.
"Uncle Felix, who exactly did you offend?" York asked.
Felix's expression turned serious.
"Our company won that project fair and square, based on our own merit. I have a clear conscience."
But York was still worried.
"Uncle Felix, you can't be too careful. It's better to be cautious."
Felix nodded.
"That man, Baise, is from Havenport. He's already gone back since his bid failed. If I run into him in the business world again, I'll be careful."
York committed the name 'Baise' to memory.
When York came out of Felix's study, Claudia dragged him all the way up to the second floor and into her room.
