Everly’s eyes filled with hope at the man’s words. The thought of soon becoming his wife made her heart race uncontrollably.
"Excellent, excellent," Cary said, his smile treacherous. "In that case, I shall await the good news at the Earl’s estate. However, do not make me wait too long, Mr. Whitmore. I am not a patient man."
"You won't have to," Sebastian replied coldly.
Cary and his entourage then swept out of the office.
After seeing them out, Foster returned to the office to find Sebastian standing by the floor-to-ceiling window. His arms were crossed over his chest, and his eyes were fixed on the city below with a freezing intensity. The aura radiating from him was terrifying.
"What is our next move? Do you actually intend to agree to Cary’s proposal and marry Miss Everly?" Foster asked cautiously.
A long silence followed. Sebastian didn't say a word.
His silence filled Foster with a growing sense of unease. It was clear that Cary had truly ignited the man's fury. Foster had never seen anyone dare to threaten his master so blatantly, let alone push him into such a corner.
As the minutes ticked by, the atmosphere in the office became suffocatingly heavy.
Just as Foster was about to excuse himself, Sebastian’s voice cut through the air, cold as ice. "How much information do we have on those five families?"
Foster’s anxiety grew. "Then how should we proceed? We can't just sit here and wait for the end."
Sebastian turned and sat back in his desk chair, his fingers drumming a rhythmic beat against the armrest. "There is an old saying: 'Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.' Since he wants to play this game, I’ll play along. I’ll walk into his trap and let him taste the thrill of victory. Once he’s drunk on his own success, I’ll rip him out by the roots when he least expects it."
His greatest regret was not eliminating the old fox a year ago. This time, he would ensure Cary never had another chance to stand up. He needed a foolproof strategy.
"So... you are temporarily agreeing to the marriage?" Foster asked, treading carefully.
