Over the next few days, whispers of an impending alliance between the Austin family and the Cary estate began to saturate the upper echelons of Murican high society.
The news sent shockwaves through the elite social circles.
The moment her car came to a halt, Uriel climbed out and marched into the main residence. Behind her, Derrick followed anxiously. "Slow down! You’re wearing high heels. What if you twist your ankle walking that fast?"
"Leave me be! Your son has clearly lost his mind. How am I supposed to stay calm?" Uriel snapped.
The butler greeted them immediately. "Sir, Ma'am."
Uriel didn't waste a second. "Where is that brat Sebastian? Where is he hiding?"
Before the butler could respond, a tall, commanding figure appeared at the top of the stairs. Sebastian descended slowly, dressed in simple loungewear that did nothing to diminish his imperial aura.
"What’s with the urgency?" he teased with a light smile. "Don't tell me Dad actually found himself a mistress and finally got caught."
Derrick, who had just stepped inside, bristled. "Watch it, kid! If you make your mother actually suspect me, I’ll never hear the end of it!"
Uriel pointed a finger at Sebastian, her voice trembling with rage. "You still have the nerve to joke at a time like this? Get down here right now and explain these headlines. Since when is the Austin family aligning with the Carys? Who in their right mind would want to marry into a family of snakes? If you don't give me a straight answer today, we are going to have a serious problem."
Derrick interjected smoothly, "How could you be old? You're still my goddess—eternal, young, and beautiful."
"Stop the sweet talk!" Uriel barked. "We are talking about your son’s mess." She turned her sharp gaze back to Sebastian.
"Tell me the truth—what is going on with Everly? Why let this news spread? Are you seriously planning to cave to that old fox Cary? I refuse to believe that we’d be helpless if we turned them down. They're nothing but a few pests banded together; they don't have the power to topple the Austin family."
Seeing the genuine fury on his mother's face, Sebastian let out a helpless sigh. "Mom, you’re overthinking this. Yes, I’m the one who had the news released, but it’s strictly a strategic move. I have zero intention of marrying into the Cary family. Don't you know your own son better than that? And don't forget—I already have a fiancée. I would never do anything to hurt her."
