Loyce gave a small nod. "He's stable. I won't forget this favor, Dario. If you ever need leverage, you have my word."
"Your word is more than enough," Dario smiled graciously.
In their world, having a favor owed by someone who was simultaneously the world's most elusive arms dealer and a miraculous surgeon was like holding a golden ticket. It was the most profitable trade he could have ever made.
Once Dario took his leave, Hank finally managed to pull himself together. He stepped forward. "Mr. X? The billionaire arms dealer 'Mr. X'? The guy the whole underworld swears is a man and is harder to find than a ghost?" He looked up and down at his beautiful sister, trying desperately to keep his cool. "And all this time... it's been my sister?"
Hank leaned over, resting his hands heavily on the armrests of her wheelchair, letting out a breath of pure disbelief. "You are truly something else."
His tone was rough, but his eyes were brimming with unmistakable pride and relief.
Loyce just smiled at him. "All my brothers are obsessed with building their empires. Why wouldn't I do the same?"
Hank had a million questions, but in the end, he just ruffled her hair and sighed. "As long as you're safe, that's all that matters. What about Lucian? How bad is it?"
As Lucian was wheeled out of the OR toward the ICU, Loyce gave Hank the unfiltered truth about his condition.
Hearing that Lucian's leg was functionally paralyzed, Hank sighed again. He took the handles of the wheelchair from Nightingale and started pushing Loyce down the hall. "Come home with me. The enemy is throwing a political tantrum right now. Once Lucian is stable enough to travel, I'll arrange transport for both of you. I'll have my men lock down this floor until then."
Loyce nodded, then remembered her original reason for needing to visit Mexistar. "Hank, how is the research coming along?"
"What research?"
"The Whole-Organ Regeneration & Immune-Compatible Transplantation System. The Regeneration System project."
