The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 131

It was already eleven o'clock by the time Victoria returned to the project base.

From a distance, the entire office area was pitch-black, save for a few dim security lights.

"Assistant Hawk, you can just drop me off here," Victoria said, glancing out the window. They were still about three hundred yards from the dorms and offices. While it was deserted at this hour, a gleaming Maybach pulling up would be hard to explain if someone saw it.

"Alright." Hawk pulled over, got out, and walked around the front of the car to open Victoria's door.

Victoria ducked out of the car. "Thanks, Hawk," she said quietly, about to head into the base.

Hawk hesitated by the door for a moment before calling out, "Miss Sanger."

Victoria turned back.

"Miss Sanger, I know it's not my place to say this, but… maybe you and Mr. Shawn could sit down and talk things through."

Ever since they'd signed the divorce papers at the Shawn family estate, Hawk had noticed a change in Elias. He'd become even more unpredictable and moody than usual. He claimed he didn't care about Victoria, yet the moment he heard she was trapped in the village, he'd driven straight into the storm without a second thought for the danger. When he learned she was staying at the project base to meet the deadline, he used the excuse of inspecting the Havenport branch office to stay behind, putting his work in the capital on hold.

"...And even though Mr. Shawn didn't show it, I know he only accepted the invitation to the charity auction because he knew you'd be there. It shows that, deep down, he does care about you."

Victoria's eyelashes fluttered downwards. After a few seconds of silence, a faint smile touched her lips. "Hawk, we only have about three more days of work here at the base. By then, the thirty-day cooling-off period for the divorce will be over."

"Miss—"

"Please remind Elias to set a time to go to city hall and finalize the papers," Victoria interrupted, leaving no room for argument. "It's remote and dark out here. Drive safely on your way back."

With that, Victoria turned and walked away without looking back.

She was distracted on the way to her office, not even noticing the light was on inside.

It wasn't until she pushed the door open that Sunny looked up from her desk in surprise. "Victoria, you're back! I thought you were staying downtown tonight."

Victoria was just as surprised to see her. She glanced around the office. "I realized I still had some drawings to finish, and I managed to get a ride, so I just came back. Why are you still up so late?"

"Same here. We're heading back in a few days, so I wanted to get my drafts organized. That way, I can hopefully squeeze in some time to go shopping downtown," Sunny said, rubbing her sore neck. "Last time, we didn't even make it there before the storm sent us back."

Victoria smiled at the memory and turned on all the office lights.

The room instantly brightened.

Sunny finally got a clear look at Victoria's attire. Her face lit up with delight as she came closer to inspect it. "Victoria, you look gorgeous! I always knew you had a great figure, but I had no idea it was this amazing! Seriously, where did you get this dress? You have to tell me. I want to have one custom-made."

Victoria felt a bit self-conscious under her friend's scrutiny. "I'll send you the address of the shop later."

"Okay."

Sunny clicked her tongue in admiration. "Victoria, if Mr. Shawn saw you in this…"
