Hearing this, Victoria didn't press the matter further.
It was best to quit while she was ahead.
Compared to his initial outright rejection, 'considering' it meant there was still a chance.
Tammie lifted his wrist, glanced at the time, and suggested, "Shawn, Miss Sanger, let's grab a bite. Before I came here, I heard you have a famous… what's it called… a night…"
"The night bazaar," Victoria supplied.
"Yes, that's it! The night bazaar! I heard there's a lot of great food there, and it's very lively. I've always wanted to check it out." As he spoke, Tammie was already about to call his driver to get the car ready.
However, before the call could connect, Victoria politely declined.
"Mr. James, thank you for the kind offer, but I have some work I need to attend to. I probably need to get back as soon as possible to handle it."
Tammie paused his dialing. "Can't it be postponed?"
Victoria shook her head.
The project at the site had already been delayed by nearly two weeks due to a sudden torrential downpour. Now that it was finally nearing completion, Victoria just wanted to finish it as quickly as possible to prevent any further complications.
Tammie was a workaholic himself, so when Victoria cited work as her reason, he couldn't argue.
He turned to look at Elias.
"No time."
Tammie was speechless. He hadn't even asked yet.
Tammie threw his hands up in a gesture of resignation. "Alright then, looks like we'll have to wait until next time."
Everything that needed to be said had been said.
Her purpose for the evening had been accomplished.
With that in mind, Victoria bid Tammie farewell.
"Miss Sanger, I look forward to our next meeting! Would you mind if I gave you a hug?" Tammie didn't try to detain her further, graciously opening his arms.
Victoria froze for a moment. Although she knew it was just a basic courtesy, her first instinct was to refuse.
But before she could say anything, two ice-cold gazes fell upon her.
Even without looking, she knew who they belonged to.
Elias.
Victoria's lips tightened. After a few seconds of silence, she maintained a polite smile, extended her hand, and deliberately sidestepped his question. "Mr. James, I also look forward to seeing you again!"
Tammie smiled knowingly, lowered his arms, and shook her outstretched hand. He then leaned close to her ear and whispered, "The earrings are beautiful!"
Victoria's eyes shot up in surprise.
