The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 150

Cerys stared. "That cat looks so familiar… Is that the one we saw downstairs?"

Victoria hummed in agreement, breaking the sausage stick into small pieces on the floor.

The kitten, drawn by the scent, crept forward and began to eat happily.

"So your 'guest' is this cat?" Cerys watched the little creature devour its meal through the screen, marveling at the situation. "Did you bring it up? I looked for it practically every day while you were away and never saw it. And now, the moment you're back, it just shows up."

Victoria knelt and gently stroked the kitten's head. "No, someone put it in a cardboard box and left it at my door."

"In a box at her door?"

Cerys's instincts immediately went on high alert. "Did you see who dropped it off? I've heard that some criminals use cute animals to lure people out, and then—No, Victoria, forget the cat. Go back inside right now. I'm calling my brother and having him get someone from security to check the surveillance footage."

Some pieces of sausage had been pushed aside by the kitten. Victoria gathered them back into a small pile.

"Victoria, are you listening to me?" Cerys demanded, her brow furrowing at her friend's calm demeanor. Her voice grew louder.

"I know you're worried someone might try to harm me," Victoria said, turning the camera back to herself. She looked at Cerys's anxious face on the screen. "I didn't see who brought the cat, but I checked the hallway before I came out. No one was there. Besides, the security at Willow Creek Estates is excellent. The kind of situation you're describing is almost impossible here."

"But for someone to randomly leave a cat at your door is still too weird!" Cerys knew how good the security was; if Willow Creek Estates wasn't safe, then no residential complex in the entire capital was.

Victoria pressed her lips together, not arguing the point.

"No matter what, Victoria, you need to be extra careful while I'm away," Cerys said, still uneasy.

"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing," Victoria assured her. "I'll go to the security office after work tomorrow and ask to see the footage."

Cerys nodded in agreement, then considered something. "So, what are you going to do with the little black cat? Are you going to put it back downstairs? It's getting colder, and it's grown a bit. If you leave it, I don't know if building management will chase it away."

Victoria looked down at the kitten again.

It had been starving. The entire sausage stick was gone, and now it was drowsily settling down by her feet.

She hadn't thought about Cerys's question yet.

"Victoria, why don't you adopt it?" Cerys suggested. "We don't know the motives of the person who brought it to you, but the fact that you've found each other again means you're fated to be together. And since I'm not in the city and you don't go out much, having a cat around would be good company for you."

Victoria felt herself wavering.

The main reason wasn't fate, but the fact that the kitten had clearly been living with people for a while. It was probably too young when it was taken in and had likely forgotten any survival skills it ever had. Releasing it now would be a death sentence.

As she mulled it over, she reached out and touched the kitten. The sleeping animal seemed to sense her presence, rolling onto its side and wrapping its tiny paws around her wrist, licking her hand unconsciously.

Its little tongue was rough against her skin, but it didn't hurt.
