'We are very sorry to have to inform you this way, but your brother, Grady, was in a car accident on the highway from Brentwood to The Imperial Capital. His car overturned and fell from an overpass. By the time rescue personnel arrived, the vehicle was severely damaged and had caught fire.'
'Your brother was inside the car at the time and could not be rescued in time.'
Victoria didn't know how many red lights she ran to get to the traffic police accident center. The entire way, the officer's words from the phone call echoed in her mind.
The officer in charge of the accident was already waiting in the lobby. Seeing Victoria's pale face, he quickly stepped forward to support her. "You must be Victoria? I'm Officer Lewis from the phone call."
Victoria gripped his arm tightly, forcing a smile. "Officer Lewis, what you said on the phone... it was all a lie, right?"
Officer Lewis was silent for a few seconds before saying, his voice full of pity, "I'm sorry, Miss Sanger. Please accept my condolences."
A loud crash seemed to echo in her mind. The thread of hope that had held Victoria together on her way here snapped.
Victoria shook her head. "That's impossible. It's absolutely impossible. It must be a lie. You must be playing a joke on me with my brother..."
Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
Though she said she didn't believe it, her mind was painfully clear that this was real.
Grady was such a serious person. He would never conspire with the police to play a joke on her.
Victoria's eyes were red, her heart feeling as if it were being squeezed by a powerful hand. The pain was so intense it left her speechless.
Officer Lewis stood by her side quietly. When she had calmed down a bit, he took out a watch, blackened and scorched by fire. "Miss Sanger, please take a look at this."
When Victoria saw the watch in his hand, she could no longer stand and collapsed to the floor.
It was the watch she had given Grady when he officially became the CEO of The Sanger Group.
He wore it every day unless there was a special occasion.
