The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 167

Victoria stared blankly at Tobias, the smile on her face slowly fading.

"Victoria, I know this is hard for you to accept, but I'm begging you, please don't be like this..." Tobias pulled her into his arms. "Don't torture yourself this way."

Pretending nothing had happened could only deceive others, not herself. It was like hiding a festering, bleeding wound, refusing any treatment, and just watching it get worse, using the pain to numb herself.

"Victoria, if you want to cry, just cry," Tobias whispered.

Victoria closed her eyes, her hands hanging at her sides, clenched into tight fists.

She couldn't cry.

After a long while, she pulled away from Tobias's embrace, her voice hoarse. "Tobias, I want to go to the police station."

"The police station?"

Victoria's lips were pressed so tightly together they had turned white. She met Tobias's worried gaze and slowly nodded. "I want to see the detailed accident report on my brother's crash."

Tobias thought she still couldn't accept the fact that Grady was gone. He frowned slightly. "Victoria, your body needs to be under observation in the hospital for a few days. And there are still many things you need to handle. You—"

"Tobias, I don't believe it," Victoria interrupted, her eyes firm. "I don't believe my brother died because he was speeding."

Tobias was taken aback.

Victoria forced herself to continue. "My brother called me before he started driving back. He said he had found the truth about The Sanger Group's project accident from two years ago and that he had the evidence. We agreed to go to the police station to submit it as soon as he got back."

"He knew I was waiting for him, and he knew that getting back to The Imperial Capital safely was more important than anything."

"Tobias, you grew up with my brother. You know how careful he is." As she spoke, her eyes reddened uncontrollably, and her voice began to choke. "He's never even run a red light, no matter how urgent something was. He's never broken a single traffic law. How could he possibly be speeding in the rain?"

"Victoria..."

To suppress her emotions and force herself to stay calm, Victoria bit her lower lip so hard it bled.

She said, "He promised me he would be careful, Tobias. He promised me..."

Tobias opened his mouth, but any words of comfort felt incredibly weak, and in the end, he couldn't say them.

He raised his hand, about to pat Victoria's head.

Just then, the door to the hospital room was pushed open from the outside, and a tall, imposing figure appeared in the doorway.

Tobias's hand froze mid-air. "...Mr. Shawn."

Elias's eyes were sharp and cold. He swept his gaze over Tobias before it landed on Victoria. Then, he strode toward her.

Victoria heard him and looked up, her eyes meeting his calm, unreadable dark gaze.
