The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 168

"Victoria..."

Tobias froze, turning to look at Victoria with concern.

Victoria didn't look at him. Instead, she looked at Elias and said in a hoarse voice, "Let Tobias go."

Elias's eyes darkened as he stared at her. After a long moment, he finally opened his mouth and ordered, "Let him go."

Tobias was on his knees. At the command, the bodyguards immediately released him and stood in an orderly line to the side.

Victoria took two steps forward, helped Tobias to his feet, and forced a smile. "Tobias, I'm fine. You should go take care of your work."

Tobias was still worried, but Victoria didn't give him a chance to speak, pushing him out of the room and slamming the door shut.

"Victoria!"

Tobias stood outside the room, calling her name several times.

But there was no response from Victoria. She simply went back and sat on the bed.

Elias gave a cold command. "All of you, out. Guard the door. No one is to enter without my permission."

"Yes, sir!"

Hawk and the bodyguards filed out of the room.

In a matter of seconds, only Victoria and Elias were left. The room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop, the air thick with a suffocating tension.

Elias looked at the silent Victoria, a heavy feeling settling in his chest.

"Knock, knock!"

Hawk knocked and entered, holding a bouquet of lilies. Sensing the low pressure in the room, his heart skipped a beat. He placed the flowers on the bedside table and said, "Miss Sanger, Mr. Shawn picked these out for you himself."

Victoria remained silent, her head down, her hands resting on the edge of the bed.

Hawk awkwardly rubbed his nose and added, "Miss Sanger, regarding Mr. Grady's situation, Mr. Shawn immediately had people expedite the investigation into the cause of the accident as soon as he found out. What's done is done. Please... accept my condolences."

Hearing that Grady's accident was being investigated, Victoria finally showed a flicker of a reaction. She looked up and asked Hawk, "When will the investigation results be ready?"

Hawk paused, and feeling Elias's gaze on him, he quickly changed his tune. "Mr. Shawn is personally overseeing this, so for the specifics... Miss Sanger, you should probably talk to Mr. Shawn about it."

With that, he turned and quickly left the room.

Victoria wasn't a fool. She knew Hawk had said that deliberately. She pursed her lips and looked at the lilies on the bedside table, a self-deprecating smile touching her lips.

Elias waited, but Victoria didn't ask him anything. His brow furrowed, and the irritation in his heart grew stronger.

As soon as he learned about Grady's accident, he had booked the earliest flight back, used his connections to have the entire incident investigated, and even had Hawk buy flowers to comfort her.

But not only had she ignored his previous warnings and been all over Tobias in the hospital room, but she was also willing to talk to anyone but him!
