A cold wind blew the curtains open, and the sparse moonlight fell on the ashtray, reflecting a cold gleam.
Elias 's dark eyes narrowed as he reacted instantly.
Just as the ashtray was about to come crashing down, his fingers locked around her wrist. He locked his arm around her waist and, with a thud, pinned her against the wall.
Victoria's pupils constricted. She instinctively tried to scream, "He—mmph!"
But the next second, Elias suddenly lowered his head, his lips finding hers with a practiced ease, forcibly silencing her.
Every muscle in Victoria's body tensed.
Elias didn't close his eyes. In the dim light, he could clearly see her eyelashes trembling with fear. The air was filled with the faint, sweet scent from her body, which seemed to be unintentionally testing his self-control.
An image flashed in his mind: that night at The Cloudscape, Victoria in his arms, barefoot, nervously and clumsily walking toward him.
His hand on her slender waist tightened involuntarily, nearly losing control as he felt a desperate urge to deepen the kiss.
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps came from downstairs.
Elias's eyes darkened. He gave her soft lips a light, deliberate bite before pulling away. He whispered, his voice low,
"...Don't make a sound."
Recognizing the familiar voice, Victoria's eyes shot open.
Elias stood with his back to the window, the moonlight casting a cold, clear sheen on his shoulders. His stern, handsome profile gradually came into focus in her eyes.
In the silence, Victoria could almost hear her own heart, which had been pounding with fear just moments ago, slowly steadying and calming the instant she recognized the man before her.
But then came the confusion.
Why was Elias here?
And how did he know she was here?
"You guys keep it down when you go up. If you wake her up and ruin my payday, I'll kill you!" the blond man ordered his followers menacingly as he climbed the stairs.
"Don't worry, boss. Anyone who's sniffed that powder is out cold. A thunderstorm wouldn't wake them. They're sleeping like the dead," one of the lackeys said with a nasty laugh, a plan already forming in his mind. "Boss, Rita said this girl tonight is pretty hot, right?"
"You actually trust Rita's taste? She'd call a pig beautiful! What, you already forgot how she hyped up that fat pig last month?"
The blond man spat. "Made me pop some pills thinking I was in for a good time, and I almost ended up puking my guts out!"
"No, boss, I can vouch for it! I saw the chick this afternoon when I was buying you cigarettes. She's definitely..." another follower couldn't help but chime in, swallowing hard before letting out a lecherous grin. "She's a knockout. I've never seen anyone so beautiful in my entire life."
