Genevieve was taken away by the police for questioning.
The next day, Mr. Blake woke up in the hospital. His first order of business was to fire Felice and Rose, while simultaneously promoting Victoria to Associate Director of Design Team Three.
In the Design Director's office, Felice was quietly packing her belongings.
Victoria pushed the door open and walked in. She placed a sketchbook with a faded yellow cover on Felice's desk.
"You left this in the Team Three office," she said calmly.
With that, Victoria turned to leave.
Felice picked up the sketchbook and saw her own name on the cover. Her gaze dimmed.
"Victoria, you must be pretty pleased with yourself, seeing me like this."
Victoria paused and turned back to face her, but said nothing.
Felice's eyes were red as she forced a mocking smile. "I never thought you'd install a camera in my office. Victoria, I underestimated you. You shouldn't have just asked Mr. Blake for the Associate Director position. You should have asked for my job. With your talent and background, Mr. Blake would have agreed without hesitation just to stay on your good side."
"Felice, your failure has nothing to do with me," Victoria said.
Felice froze, as if Victoria had seen right through her. She clenched her fists. "If it weren't for you, I would never have ended up in this position!"
"Even now, you're still trying to blame someone else. Don't you think that's pathetic, Felice?" Victoria's voice was steady. "You said you never expected me to install a camera. Well, I never expected you to conspire with Genevieve to set me up."
"When I first joined Aurelian Central, you were my team leader. Our design philosophies aligned perfectly. You told me I was talented and that you believed I would shine if I just kept at it."
"Later, you became the Associate Director of Team Three. Whenever you saw me, you always said how much you valued me."
"Everyone else thought so, too. And I genuinely believed you were a good leader who wanted to mentor me. That's why no matter how difficult the projects you gave me were, I did my best to complete them so I wouldn't disappoint you."
Victoria spoke slowly, each word clear and distinct.
"Then you became the Director of the Design Department, and my desire to help you never changed. I just don't know when it was that you changed."
"It's because you were getting better and better! No matter what difficult project I threw at you, you always managed to handle it! Those projects came from me! If it weren't for me, you never would have gotten so much attention! And what was the result? You exceeded all expectations, and everyone started praising you, saying it was only a matter of time before you replaced me!"
Having reached this point, Felice no longer bothered to hide her feelings, letting out all the resentment and dissatisfaction that had been building up inside her.
"So because they said that, you assumed I would definitely replace you, is that right?"
Felice fell silent.
Victoria gave a humorless laugh. "Felice, I never once thought of you as a rival."
"You…" Felice was stunned.
