‘Tamara, what are you talking about? I don’t understand. Me, swap your and Victoria’s designs? Why would I do that? You’re overthinking things.’
‘It was you. I remember now. You were the only one who came into my and Victoria’s dorm room that day. You lied and said Victoria told you to use her computer to find something. No one else touched her computer. Why won’t you admit it!’
The sound of rustling fabric could be heard on the recording as Tamara grabbed Genevieve’s arm, stopping her from leaving.
‘Let go of me!’ Genevieve’s voice was sharp with disdain as she yanked her arm away. ‘You’re insane. I told you, I didn’t do it. I never went into your dorm room, and I certainly never touched Victoria’s computer. What, have the insults gotten to your head? Didn’t you say Victoria plagiarized you? What does that have to do with me? If you’re going to have a meltdown, go find Victoria!’
‘You’re lying, Genevieve. It was you! Why? Why would you do this?’ Tamara’s voice was hoarse. Then she said, ‘I’m going to find Victoria. I’m going to tell her it was you who swapped her entry, you who made the whole school attack me!’
With that, Tamara started to walk away.
Genevieve’s expression changed, and she grabbed her again. ‘You’re not going anywhere!’
‘I’m going to tell Victoria it was all you! You messed with her computer, and you were the one behind the scenes spreading rumors and getting everyone to attack me! I know everything!’ Tamara shouted, struggling to break free from Genevieve’s grip.
Seeing that she couldn't stop her, Genevieve gave up all pretense. ‘Fine. It was me.’
Tamara stopped dead in her tracks.
Genevieve walked up to her, looking down at her condescendingly. ‘I installed malware on Victoria’s computer. As soon as she emailed her competition entry, I was able to intercept and alter it. And yes, I paid people to spread rumors around campus that you were falsely accusing Victoria of plagiarism.’
Tamara’s face went pale. She stared at her in disbelief, then her voice broke with despair. ‘Why? Why would you do that?’
