Hawk thought for a moment before answering uncertainly, “Garnett Sanger will be eligible for early release in less than two weeks. Ms. Sanger was probably making arrangements for her father’s post-release medical treatment…”
Elias’s dark eyes narrowed, his voice cold and heavy. “Probably?”
Hawk’s heart dropped into his stomach.
He was about to become the ninth person to be kicked out by Mr. Shawn.
“Mr. Shawn, have you forgotten? You gave a strict order for our people to maintain a significant distance when following Ms. Sanger, to ensure she wouldn't spot them again,” Hawk swallowed hard before continuing. “So when our men followed Ms. Sanger to the hospital, they were worried about being noticed in the crowded interior, so they didn't go inside.”
Since they hadn’t gone in, they had no idea what Victoria had done at the hospital.
A vein throbbed at Elias’s temple, his expression turning grim. “Get out!”
Hawk felt a strange sense of relief. Great, he was number nine.
“Yes, sir.”
Hawk turned to leave but suddenly stopped, remembering something. He turned back, hesitating.
“What is it?” Elias asked coldly.
Hawk felt a chill wash over him, nearly freezing him in place.
“It’s about Ms. Vale…” He took a deep breath and forced himself to continue. “The legal department officially took over Ms. Vale’s case this morning. But they reported that she’s been very emotional and uncooperative. She refuses to talk to them and keeps saying she wants to see you, Mr. Shawn. They wanted to know if you have time to see her. Or… if we should try to arrange for her to be released on bail pending trial?”
Hawk let out a long breath. If anyone had been standing behind him, they would have seen that his back was soaked with cold sweat.
“I’m not seeing her.” Thinking of Victoria’s mockery yesterday, Elias’s gaze darkened. “And no bail. Tell her that if she’s not going to cooperate, she can stay in there and wait for the police to finish their investigation.”
“What about the online rumors about Ms. Vale? Should we have them suppressed?” Hawk asked.
Elias lifted his eyes and shot him a cold glance without answering.
