The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 310

The next morning.

Victoria had just stepped out of the elevator when she saw Tobias standing by his car, waiting for her.

Her steps faltered almost imperceptibly. "Tobias, didn't we say we'd just meet at the hospital?"

"I was on my way, so I just stopped by."

In truth, after receiving her text last night, he'd been so happy he barely slept. If it weren't for the sliver of self-control he had left, he probably would have rushed straight to Willow Creek Estates to hold her.

That text wasn't just about her wanting him to go with her to get Garnett. More importantly, it meant that when faced with the choice of pushing him away or facing him, Victoria had chosen the latter.

It meant she wouldn't run. She would try to be fair and give him a chance.

Tobias opened the back door for her.

Victoria paused, looking at him in confusion.

"The back seat is safer," Tobias explained softly as he gently guided her into the car. "You're not alone anymore. You have to be more careful about everything."

Remembering her near-accident, Victoria nodded and got into the car.

As soon as she was settled, Tobias handed her the breakfast he’d bought. "I've already made the arrangements at the hospital. Once Mr. Sanger's release procedures are complete, he'll be transferred directly to a regular room in the cardiology ward. There's no need to rush. We'll be able to see him there later."

Victoria took the breakfast and looked down. It was all her favorite food from the time she lived with the Holt family as a child.

"…Thank you, Tobias."

Tobias met her eyes in the rearview mirror and said seriously, "Victoria, you don't have to thank me. Even if it weren't for you, I'd do this for Grady. I don't want you to do anything against your will out of guilt."

Victoria blinked but said nothing.

A short while later, the car slowly pulled out of the underground garage.

Not long after they left, a Maybach emerged from the shadows and stopped right where Victoria had gotten into the car.

Hawk glanced back at the man in the rear seat. "Mr. Shawn, should we continue to follow Miss Sanger?"

Last night, Elias had stayed in Genevieve's room until midnight before leaving, then had Hawk drive him here.

As soon as they'd left the hospital room, Hawk had informed him that, as planned, all major media outlets had announced Genevieve's appointment as the lead designer for The Shawn Group's City Center project and had simultaneously worked to clean up her image.

Elias stared at the headlines popping up all over his screen, his mind replaying Victoria's words: "I will not forgive you."

A sense of panic gripped him, a fear that Victoria would see the news.

The sun had been out for the past two days, melting most of the snow on the ground, and the number of cars on the road had visibly increased.

What was normally a twenty-minute drive took nearly forty minutes due to a traffic jam.

Tobias had already asked a colleague for Garnett's room number.

As soon as they arrived, Victoria rushed to the elevator, heading straight for Cardiology, room 211. Tobias was held up by a patient's family member and couldn't keep up with her.

Outside the room, Victoria took a deep breath, put on a smile, and pushed the door open.

"Dad…"

Before she could finish, she saw that the room was empty. The bed was neatly made, untouched.

Victoria's heart sank. She turned and walked out of the room. Seeing a nurse, she hurried over. "Excuse me, Nurse, the patient in room 211?"

The nurse was startled by her sudden appearance. It took her a moment to recover. She looked Victoria over and asked, "The patient in 211? Are you a family member?"

Victoria nodded. "Where is he?"

The nurse's expression turned to one of pity. She sighed and said consolingly, "The patient went into sudden cardiac arrest this morning. We were unable to resuscitate him. Ma'am, please accept my condolences…"
