Genevieve pulled a photograph from under her pillow and handed it to Elias.
"See if this is them."
Elias took the photo. It showed a mother and daughter getting out of an unassuming black SUV, followed by two bodyguards in sunglasses.
The photographer must have been rushing, afraid of being seen, because the image was slightly blurred. And after five years, the mother and daughter's features had changed somewhat.
At first glance, they were hard to recognize.
But Elias had seen hundreds of photos of them and recognized the two women immediately.
"I ran into them by accident while I was out shopping. I'd overheard Hawk telling you the results of the investigation on them when I came to the company to see you, so I knew you were looking for them.
"When I first saw them, they just looked familiar, and I wasn't sure if they were the arsonist's ex-wife and daughter. But I paid extra attention and took this picture."
"Where are they now?"
Genevieve pressed her lips together, silent for a few seconds before saying, "…I don't know."
Elias's dark eyes turned cold instantly.
Feeling the chilling aura coming from him, Genevieve quickly added, "I don't know where they are now, but I know they go to the mall in the photo once a month!"
Elias's gaze darkened as he looked down at the picture.
"After I took this photo, I went back and compared it to confirm they were the arsonist's ex-wife and daughter, but by then I'd already lost them. So, on a long shot, I started going back to that area whenever I had time, just to see if they'd show up again…"
Genevieve paused, then continued, "And it worked. I saw them three times in the last six months, and each time was exactly a month apart."
Elias flipped the photo over. The mall's address was written on the back. Judging by the fading ink, it had been written some time ago.
It was obvious Genevieve had long planned to use this clue to get something from Elias.
She probably just hadn't expected to hand it over under these circumstances.
"When was the last time they appeared?"
[I know Elias is after you. Also, the police have identified you as the prime suspect in Grady's murder. They'll be mobilizing to find you soon. You can't escape!]
An immediate reply came back: [Who is this!]
[I can help you.]
[Who the hell are you! Why should I believe you!]
Seeing the reply, Genevieve sneered and muttered, "Idiot!"
Then her fingers flew across the screen as she typed out a message and sent it:
[Garnett has surgery in a week. You can use it as a chance to take him and trade him for Victoria. Elias will do anything she says right now. If you can grab Victoria and use her to threaten him, you'll be free. Believe it or not, it's up to you!]
After sending the last message, without waiting for a reply, Genevieve removed the SIM card, snapped it in two, and threw it into the toilet.
With a flush, she watched the card get sucked into the swirling water and disappear down the drain. A vicious smile played on her lips.
