The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 386

The location of the staged accident wasn't far from The Imperial Crest Estates.

A cab ride took less than ten minutes.

Standing outside the familiar front door, Victoria felt a little dazed. For some reason, a sense of anxiety and confusion inexplicably bloomed in her heart.

After a long moment, she realized that in her haste to ask where the files were, she had forgotten to ask Hawk for the door code.

She hadn't been back since moving out of The Imperial Crest Estates. Elias had mentioned renovating it a while ago, so the code had probably been changed.

Just as she was thinking about it and getting ready to call Hawk, a surprised yet hesitant voice came from behind her.

"Mrs. Shawn!"

Victoria instinctively turned around, pausing for a second before softly calling out, "Anne."

Anne hurried over, the smile on her face impossible to hide. "Mrs. Shawn, it really is you! I saw you from a distance over there and couldn't be sure. I was afraid my eyes were playing tricks on me."

She then added with a pang of sympathy, "Mrs. Shawn, you look thinner. Have you not been resting well? If I had known you were coming back, I would have bought some ingredients to make you a nice, hearty soup…"

"Anne, I'm not Elias’s wife anymore. You can just call me Victoria," Victoria interrupted her, her lips curved in a faint smile that seemed gentle, yet her tone was distant and firm. "Besides, I'm just here to help grab a file. I'll be leaving as soon as I have it."

At her words, Anne's eyes dimmed.

Of course, she knew that Victoria and Elias were divorced.

But in her heart, she still hoped they would get back together. Especially when she saw Mr. Shawn occasionally come back and just sit in the living room until the middle of the night. She felt that even though Mr. Shawn never said anything, he still cared deeply for Mrs. Shawn.

And she had seen Mrs. Shawn's feelings for Mr. Shawn clearly over the past two years.

Anne opened her mouth, wanting to say more, but her lips trembled a few times before she changed her words. "...I'll just call you Miss Sanger then."

"Alright."

Anne smiled, then entered the door code and opened the door.

Victoria stood behind her, and as she glanced down, she happened to see the code.

She froze, unable to stop herself from asking, "You never changed this code?"

The overall decor and layout of The Imperial Crest Estates were much the same as she remembered, with only a few signs of renovation.

It reminded her of what Elias had said when he had a high fever—that The Imperial Crest Estates was being renovated and he had nowhere to go. She suddenly felt like she was being played for a fool.

Victoria was annoyed, but she couldn't tell if she was more angry at herself for being too soft-hearted or at him for being too cunning.

Outside the study on the second floor.

Anne used a key to open the door and said, "Miss Sanger, whatever file you need, you can go in and get it yourself. I'll go downstairs and cut up some fruit for you."

Victoria was about to say it wasn't necessary.

But as if she knew Victoria would refuse, Anne didn't give her a chance to speak and turned to head downstairs.

Victoria's lips twitched. She had no choice but to swallow her words, push the door open, and step into the study.
