The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 398

The man was holding a dagger.

In that moment, Garnett finally got a clear look at the man approaching him.

He had a chiseled facial structure with strong, defined features. It was easy to tell he had once been quite handsome.

But that was in the past. A long, thin scar ran down the man’s left cheek, winding its way from the corner of his mouth to just below his eyelid. In the cold light reflecting off the dagger, it looked especially menacing and terrifying.

The man stopped in front of him, looking down with a sneer. “Well, old man, you’re tougher than you look. My foot is sore from kicking you, and you still managed to wake up!”

“Who… who are you!”

“You’re about to die, so why are you so obsessed with who I am?” The man slowly squatted down, casually toying with the dagger. He clicked his tongue. “Fine, I’ll tell you. It doesn’t matter anyway. But you better remember the name.”

As he spoke, he lightly tapped Garnett’s right cheek with the flat of the blade. “My name’s Henry. And I’m not one to hide it.”

Henry…

Garnett quickly searched his memory but couldn't recall anyone by that name. Then again, with five or six months of his memory gone, he couldn’t be sure he hadn’t made an enemy during that time.

“Do… do I know you? What do you want? Money? How much? I can give you whatever you want, just as long as you—”

“You think you can buy your way out of this? Sure,” Henry said, his eyes narrowing. He brought the edge of the blade closer to Garnett’s face. “Why don’t you tell me,” he said in a sinister voice, “how much is my face worth?”

Garnett’s entire body tensed. The cold of the steel seemed to seep through his skin and right into his nerves, making him tremble uncontrollably.

“Ten… ten million? Or twenty million—AH!”

Henry’s expression suddenly darkened. He pulled the dagger back, stood up, and kicked Garnett hard in the chest. “You think a few million is enough to buy me off?” he snarled.

Garnett felt as if his ribs had broken. Even breathing was agony. He clutched his chest and looked up at the man, struggling to speak. “Then… then how much do you want…?”

“How much? Fifty billion. For that, I might consider letting you live.”

Fifty billion!

How could Elias be involved in this?!

“Impossible,” Garnett denied at once. “He’s not that kind of person!”

Victoria had been married into the Shawn family for two years. Although he hadn't interacted with Elias much, the man’s respectful and considerate behavior toward him at the hospital convinced Garnett he wasn't the type to act so viciously without reason.

“Impossible?” Henry laughed, his anger twisting his face. “Right. ‘Impossible’!”

Garnett watched the nearly hysterical man, terrified that he would lose control and plunge the dagger straight into his throat.

“I only killed two people! It was their bad luck they died, who’s to blame for that? Besides, one of them is still alive, isn't he? So why is that mad dog Elias still chasing me? He even got the cops after me, cornered me with nowhere to run!”

“If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t look like this!”

“He’s your son-in-law, and I can’t get to him. So, I’ll just have to inconvenience you and that bitch Victoria to atone for his sins!”
