Hearing Henry speak of murder as if it were the most ordinary thing in the world, Garnett’s breath hitched. For some reason, a deep sense of unease settled in his heart, and he instinctively asked, “Who… who did you kill?”
“Who?” Henry tilted his head slightly, as if trying to recall their names. Suddenly, a memory surfaced, and a sinister smile spread across his face. “Oh, look at me, I almost forgot. You actually know one of them.”
A violent shudder ran through Garnett.
The next second, Henry’s voice cut through the air. “I killed a man and a woman. The man… was your son. What was his name again? Oh, that’s right, Grady!”
BOOM—
It was as if something exploded in Garnett’s ears, and his mind went completely blank.
“Wh-what… what did you say?”
Henry seemed pleased with Garnett’s reaction and, with uncharacteristic patience, repeated, enunciating every word, “I said… your son, Grady… was… killed… by… me!”
“What? You didn’t know? Hahahaha… Do you know how your son died? I had someone mess with his brakes. It was raining hard, his car lost control, skidded, and went straight off the bridge!”
As if that wasn't enough, Henry continued with a wild laugh, “That bridge was over three hundred feet high. The car was smashed to pieces when it hit the ground. Your son… there wasn’t even a complete corpse left! Out there in the middle of nowhere, just pieces of flesh and blood all over the ground. Tsk, tsk…”
Garnett’s pupils dilated visibly. He opened his mouth, but no words came out.
“Shut up! That’s impossible! That’s absolutely impossible!”
His temples throbbed violently, the pain so intense it felt like his head would split open. Fueled by a sudden surge of adrenaline, he lunged at Henry, desperate to make him stop talking.
Henry stumbled back, nearly falling.
“Son of bitch! You fucking old bastard!”
He swore, took a large step forward, and grabbed Garnett by the collar. With his right hand, he tightened his grip on the dagger and plunged it deep into Garnett’s abdomen.
Schlick—
The sharp sound of the blade tearing through flesh was jarring in the silent factory.
The dagger went in and came out. Its cold, glittering surface was now coated in thick, red blood. The metallic scent instantly filled the air.
