After leaving Shawn Manor, Victoria took two days off, giving herself a four-day break including the weekend.
During those four days, she didn't return to The Imperial Crest Estates.
At night, she slept at a small apartment Cerys owned. During the day, she and Cerys thoroughly cleaned her new rental, bought new furniture, and redecorated.
The rental wasn't far from the Design Institute. It was an eighty-square-meter two-bedroom apartment—not large, but it had everything she needed.
"Finally done! I think I've exercised more in the last few days than I have all year. If I'd known it would be this exhausting, I would have insisted on hiring a cleaning service, no matter what you said." Cerys leaned back and collapsed onto the sofa. She turned her head towards Victoria, who was still tidying up the kitchen, and drew out her words, "Victoria, can you get me something to drink?"
Victoria placed the last spice jar on the rack, then turned and got a bottle of mineral water from the cabinet.
"I want something cold."
"You’re about to be on your period. You really shouldn’t be guzzling ice-cold drinks." Victoria twisted the cap off the water bottle and pushed it into her hand.
Cerys pouted and mumbled, "But it's not here yet."
Victoria shot her a look.
"Fine, fine, I'll drink this."
Victoria smiled helplessly. "After your period is over, you can drink as much as you want. I'll get it for you."
Cerys took a sip to wet her throat. Seeing the smile in Victoria's eyes, she couldn't help but blurt out, "This is so nice."
"What is?"
"Nothing." Cerys shook her head, but as Victoria turned away to get busy again, she thought to herself with sincerity: "Victoria, you have no idea how long it's been since I've seen you this full of life. You like this, right now, is really, really nice."
Suddenly, the phone on the coffee table lit up and started ringing.
Cerys called out, "Victoria, your phone!"
Victoria walked over and picked it up. It was an unfamiliar number.
She paused for a moment before answering.
"M—Miss Sanger."
"Assistant Hawk? This number..."
Victoria was a little surprised to hear Hawk's voice. She pulled the phone away from her ear to check the number on the screen again. She was wondering why Hawk would be calling from an unknown number when she suddenly remembered.
The night she left Shawn Manor, Cerys had eagerly taken her phone and blocked the numbers of everyone related to the Shawn family, except for Old Mr. Shawn and Chuck.
"Miss Sanger, I tried calling you before, but I couldn't get through."
Victoria glanced at Cerys, who, as the 'culprit,' was sheepishly rubbing her nose and smiling at her. She looked away and asked, "Assistant Hawk, is there something you need?"
"Miss Sanger, your divorce application with Mr. Shawn has been filed. However, after the cooling-off period ends, you and Mr. Shawn will need to go to city hall together to sign the papers and receive your divorce certificates to complete the process."
"A cooling-off period?" Cerys interjected before Victoria could speak.
