Victoria gripped his fingers, trying to pry them off. Looking at Elias’s furious face, all she felt was a numb kind of emptiness, and, underneath it, a twisted flicker of satisfaction.
Perhaps in the past, seeing him so angry about the lost child might have made her naively believe that he cared, that he had wanted their baby. But now, she knew the truth. He wasn't angry because the child was gone; he was angry because he was losing his control over her.
That child had never meant anything to him. He had never cared.
Victoria could feel her breath growing labored. Unable to break his grip, she clenched her jaw, lifted her leg, and kneed him hard.
Elias's cold eyes tightened, and he released her to dodge the blow.
"Cough... cough, cough..." Finally able to breathe, Victoria felt her body go limp. She stumbled back several steps before managing to steady herself, clutching her chest as she bent over. She looked up at him with cold mockery. "Mr. Shawn, what are you so angry about?"
"I solved a problem for you. You should be happy, shouldn't you?" She straightened up, the red marks from his fingers stark against the pale skin of her neck. Her tone was distant and harsh, her words delivered slowly and deliberately, ensuring every syllable landed in his ears.
"Or has Mr. Shawn forgotten what he said a while ago? If so, I don't mind reminding you. I just wonder which part you've forgotten?"
"Was it when you said that if I got pregnant, you would personally drag me to the operating table?"
"Or was it when you said anyone could have your child, Elias, except... I wasn't worthy?"
Victoria's lips curled into a sneer. She pointed towards the dining room and added, "Or maybe it was two months ago, right there, when you publicly humiliated me and said, 'Victoria, touching you disgusts me'?"
Every word she threw at him was something he’d once used to cut her open. Now she was forcing herself to shove those same blades back into his hands, even if it tore her up all over again.
Victoria took a deep breath, fighting the tremor in her voice, and with the last of her strength, she said, word by word:
"Elias—"
"Let's get a divorce."
Elias's face was grim. "Victoria, my patience is limited. You'd better think about the consequences before you speak. Using the same tricks over and over again is just disgusting."
"I've never been more clear about anything in my life."
