The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 13

Catherine stopped in her tracks, her breath catching as her face grew tense.

“What’s wrong?” Aaron asked, clearly confused. “Didn’t you ask Lance to transfer you back?”

Catherine shook her head. “No, I’m here to resign.”

Aaron stared at her, stunned. “Resign? Why?”

“Personal reasons,” Catherine answered, keeping it brief. “Is there any way to cancel the transfer order?”

“That would need Lance’s approval,” Aaron said, looking troubled.

Catherine pressed her fingers to her forehead, feeling suddenly exhausted.

Aaron tried to reassure her. “It’s the busiest time of year. Why don’t you wait until after the holidays to resign? For now, go get settled. You’ve already got a job to do—Adelina wants you to bring her a mango smoothie this afternoon.”

“Got it.” Catherine nodded and headed to the branch office to pack her things.

By one o’clock, she was back at her old desk outside the CEO’s office. After putting her things away, she grabbed a mango smoothie and headed inside.

Sunlight poured through the windows, bathing Lance in a warm glow. He wore a crisp white shirt, his striking features sharp and elegant, radiating authority.

Adelina lounged on the sofa in the sitting area, the coffee table piled with snacks.

Lance glanced up when Catherine entered, then went right back to his work.

Catherine walked over to Adelina. “Here’s the smoothie you asked for.”

“Just set it down,” Adelina replied, barely looking up as she fiddled with her nails.

Catherine put the drink on the table and quietly left.

She had barely made it back to her desk before the intercom rang.

Lance’s deep voice came through. “Come in.”

Catherine set down her things and went back into the office. Lance was still behind his desk, focused as ever. He lifted his eyes to glance at Adelina.

Catherine followed his gaze and met Adelina’s annoyed stare.

“Why is this smoothie hot?” Adelina demanded.
