The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 14

“Bring me your newest collection,” Adelina announced as she strolled in and settled onto the sofa.

Immediately, staff members buzzed around her. Someone hurried to fetch gowns, another flipped through makeup and hair lookbooks, and a couple of others brought tea, sliced fruit, and a tray of tiny pastries.

Catherine took in the racks crowded with dazzling gowns. In a place like this, even the cheapest dress would easily cost six figures.

She was about to check the tags for something at least somewhat reasonable when Adelina called out, “Catherine, come here.”

Catherine changed course and walked over, holding out Adelina’s handbag.

“Stand right here. Where are you off to?” Adelina said, barely glancing up as she scrolled through the styling options.

Catherine hesitated for a second, then quietly pulled her hand back and stood behind Adelina, saying nothing.

For the next two hours, Adelina picked out her gown and got her hair and makeup done. Each time she moved on to a new thing, she’d toss another order over her shoulder. “Stay right there. Don’t wander off.”

Catherine didn’t mind. They still had to pick a dress, and this just meant more paid downtime. Standing around and getting paid was way easier than doing any real work.

Eventually, Adelina finished up and finally looked her way.

“Go get the cheapest gown in your store,” she said.

The stylist grinned and gave a quick signal to an assistant.

Within seconds, the assistant came back holding a black dress decorated with gray and orange ribbons.

‘Ugly’ didn’t even begin to describe it.

Up close, the bright ribbons and rough stitching made it look even worse.

Catherine frowned, unable to help herself.

“Adelina is being so generous with you. This dress costs four hundred and twenty thousand, you know,” the stylist said, throwing in a couple of pointed remarks as she adjusted Adelina’s gown.

Four hundred and twenty thousand. That was anything but cheap. Catherine had never bought a dress this expensive, even with the company picking up the tab.

“You’re spending Lance’s money, so you’ll do as I say. If you don’t like it, pay for one yourself—if you can afford it,” Adelina said, shooting her a quick look in the mirror.

Adelina looked flawless in her pale lavender cocktail dress and perfect makeup. If Catherine stood next to her in that monstrosity, she’d look like a total joke.

“Alright, this is fine,” Adelina said, smiling at her own reflection. “Let’s check out.”
