The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 207

Catherine’s head was pounding. How was she supposed to handle this mess?

She ignored her buzzing phone and focused on getting ready for work. After parking in the basement, she rode the elevator up. When the doors opened on the ground floor, a bunch of coworkers piled in.

“Morning, Catherine! Congrats!”

“Your boyfriend is seriously good-looking.”

“You two are such a perfect match. I heard he studied overseas!”

Everyone seemed eager to congratulate her. Catherine just smiled politely and kept quiet, not bothering to set the record straight.

She dropped her bag on the seventeenth floor before heading up to the executive secretary’s office to find Michelle and clear the air about last night.

“This is on me. I should’ve explained things better to Adelina. Now there’s this huge misunderstanding. I don’t really mind, but I don’t want you to get the wrong idea or tell Lewis something that isn’t true.”

Michelle looked a little dazed at first, but after Catherine finished, things clicked into place. “So Adelina’s just worried about you and Lance, and she stirred all this up on purpose?”

“That’s basically it.” Catherine knew Michelle was sharp—she’d pick up on it right away.

Michelle sighed, a little disappointed. “I really thought you and… Never mind. I’m glad I didn’t bring it up with Lewis, otherwise he would’ve gotten his hopes up for nothing.”

As long as Michelle didn’t say anything to Lewis, he wouldn’t believe the rumors.

With things cleared up, Catherine felt a weight lift. As for the gossip in the company chat, she decided to just let it be.

The receptionist only caught up on the news when she got to her desk. She ended up spilling that Lewis often brought Catherine soup, which set off another round of chaos in the group chat. The place had just calmed down, but now everyone was buzzing again.

At ten, Catherine followed Lance to a meeting. She took notes on the side, while her phone—set to vibrate—kept lighting up with notifications. People in the group chat kept tagging her, asking about her and Lewis.

Lance was watching his laptop screen, noticing the constant flurry of messages. Catherine had been tagged a bunch of times, but she never responded. Someone else chimed in, begging her to answer.

Lance moved his fingers, typing out a message that tagged Catherine as well.
