The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 216

“It looks like you don’t really want to have dinner with me. That’s okay. We can do it another time. But I already bought these flowers, so please just take them. Otherwise, they’ll go to waste.”

He spoke like a true gentleman, polite and respectful, never overstepping.

Catherine nudged the flowers back toward him. “I can’t accept them. Please take care on your way home.”

If she accepted them now just to avoid wasting them, there would always be a next time. She didn’t want that.

“How about I give you a ride home then?” Lewis tried again, but his smile was a little forced now, clearly not used to being turned down so many times in a row.

Catherine shifted her bag onto her shoulder. “Lewis, honestly, as long as you’re willing, we could be really good friends.”

She genuinely admired him. He’d worked his way up from nothing and had the same grit and determination she did. In their world, where neither of them had a powerful background, helping each other out was always a good move.

Lewis wanted to ask what if he didn’t want to just be friends, but he saw the answer on her face. If he kept pushing, they wouldn’t even have friendship left.

“Sorry if I made things awkward. Please, just take the flowers. From now on, we’re friends.”

The flowers felt different now, just a gesture between friends. Catherine accepted them with a smile.

Before she could say anything else, a few junior employees nearby let out little gasps. They were clearly surprised by what they’d witnessed.

“Let’s head back,” Catherine said softly. The words had barely left her lips before the sky suddenly opened up. Rain poured down in sheets, so heavy it soaked through their clothes in an instant.

Catherine hurried back to the building’s entrance for cover, and Lewis followed close behind.

She pulled out her phone and checked the weather app. The forecast showed heavy rain for the rest of the night, with no sign of stopping anytime soon.

“How did you get here?” she asked.
